HELP! Gear Oil Leak

I have a leak at the back of my Aerostar (it is not the Extended). I was told that it is gear oil, but that it is very difficult and expensive to repair to stop the leak. Can I just add more gear oil so the level doesn't drop too low and where is the opening to pour in the gear oil?

Where is the leak? At what location do you see oil? Is it coming from the wheel bearing seals or the differential?

Both the front seal and the rear gasket are fairly easy fix, But don't let anybody over torque the seal, You can add more oil, and let it sling all over the place, your car will never rust, the filler plug looks like a bolt with a square hole in it, the end of ratchet or breaker bar will fit it, 1/2 inch, you can fill it up there. Hope this helps.

I have an oil leak from the engine. what could the problem be

Check the sump gasket at the rear of the sump tension sump bolts. Check that the rocker cover gasket is not leaking down the back of the engine and giving the appearance of a sump leak. Rear crank seal would be another point of leak and front input shaft (clutch shaft) seal leaking. Check the engine oil level and correct if necessary and check gear box oil level and correct if necessary. If you have an auto the oil will be pinkish and indicates a torque converter to gear box seal leaking.. Either of the shaft seals will require the box removal for repair.

2002 grand am does not leak after driving, but I wake up in the morning to a huge puddle of oil.

SOUND LIKE FRONT CRANKSHAFT TIMING COVER SEAL OR REAR MAIN OIL SEAL LEAKING START ENGINE LET IT IDLE SEE IF YOU SEE OIL DRIPPING UNDERNEATH CAR LOOK FOR OIL LEAK AT TIMING COVER OR AT REAR OF ENGINE WHERE REAR MAIN SEAL LOCATED. CHECK ON TOP OF ENGINE INTAKE MANIFOLD AREA WHERE OIL PUMP DRIVE GEAR IS.O - RING AT THE OIL PUMP DRIVE GEAR WILL CAUSE LARGE OIL LEAK.OIL PUMP DRIVE GEAR IS LOCATED WHERE THE DISTRIBUTOR USE TO BE LOCATED.KEEP EYE ON OIL LEVEL IN CRANK CASE.KEEP PLENTY ENGINE OIL ON HAND UNTIL YOU FIX.I WOULD FIND LOCATE PROBLEM QUICK AS POSSIBLE BECAUSE OIL LEVEL GET TOO LOW ENGINE WILL SEIZE UP LACK OF OIL..

Oil leak, where could it be

the most common oil leak on the V6 is the oil pump drive gear, it is at the back of the engine under the throttle body, it is were if the engine had a distributor were you would look for the distributor, there is an o-ring on the gear housing that starts to leak and can make a very big leak because the housing is under direct oil pump pressure.

2000 satrn sl1 someone told me on my 5 speed the gear oil was leaking out on right side of trany the seal was bad, now they tell me something on top is what is really leaking gear oil, what can it be or do...

first, make sure the car is actually leaking oil.
park the car on a clean part of driveway overnight and see if there are any new oil spots in the morning.

the only way to tell exactly where a leak is coming from is to steam clean the underneath of the car and look to see exactly where the oil is coming from.

you do this to find where the leak is, then you try to work out the best way to fix it.

Do the timing belt cover on a 1996 camry have a seal or gasket that can leak oil, mine seems to be leaking for around that area. If so how to replace the seal/gasket?

The timing cover itself does not seal any oil from leaking. It is just a cover to prevent debris from getting into the timing belt and ruining it.

To find the oil leak you will need to remove the timing cover and inspect the seals behind the cam gear, crank gear, and oil pump drive gear, and the oil pump to block seal. The most common leaks on these are the cam gear.

Oil leak from driveshaft n/s

not sure if you can interchange the manual & aut shafts, but you should check to see if there is excessive play where the shaft enters the gear box if so the diff bearings my be worn, if there is no play or noises from gear box when driving, remove the shaft again an try the seal on the shaft to check it's a proper fit, before fitting seals it is a good idea to leave them soaking in oil for a few hours prior to fitting

hope this helps
