1) Have you snapped the pulley belt, the power steering pump is powered by this? 2) check the track rod arms and where they enter of the steering rack. Sometimes the bearing that keeps the rack central breaks and the rack then rubs the outer tube causing a dragging noise and heavy steering

Also, could be the account cv joint. When this goes bad it makes a sound sort of like the sound of a Styrofoam cup dragging when you turn.

There is nothing to grease. Someones playing with your head. There was a tech bulletin out, on the steering squeeking. I would flush the power steering fluid. I have a 2004. Let us know from time to time how it's doing

Sounds like tire rub when turning right or left

It may be your power steering. Try checking the level of the power steering fluid. If you are not familiar with where this is check your owners manual and it will definitely tell you where it's located under the hood. If the fluid is at a good level it is most likely something to do with your wheel alignment. This can only be checked and serviced by a licenced motor mechanic or specialist alignment centre.

Good luck

2000 Suburban Rubbing sound while turning the wheel

Sounds to me this dealer found a money pit. Why would they want to replace the gearbox again? Does it make the sound when you turn the wheel both ways or just one way? Do you have the correct size tires on the front? If there bigger than what the manufacturer put on it they may be rubbing on the inner fender or swaybar.

Noise coming from front of car

It sounds exactly like a wheel bearing problem. The right side its seems would be the problem. When you turn right it puts more pressure on the bad bearing making it louder. I would suggest replacing both. If on is gone the other one isn't far off. Hope this helps

Rubbing noise sounds like it's coming from steering column

I have owned about 15 cars so far. ALL of the Chevy vehicles had developed problems with the ball joints / ball bearings. The most recent one was the one where I heard the rubbing noise. Unfortunately the front tire almost totally came off. It turned out to be the ball joints / ball bearings & the pinion. cost a couple thousand to fix. Get it checked. I saw another Chevy & that driver was NOT so lucky - their tire completely came off.

On the intermediate shaft. Steering shaft there is a rubber boot where it goes thru the firewall. This rubs, sometimes can be lubed with a silicone spray, sometimes needs the shaft replaced.
