Try looking in the glove box if not there look under the steering column or the driver side kick panel. and lastly try under the hood against the fire wall.

is'nt it located just above your left foot when your sitting in the car
73 those had the old glass fuses I've had some sucess using a popsickle stick with the end bent over to pry em out (carefull there glass) don't use anything Metal !
It is mounted on the passenger side, front fender about 2" inside of the finder edge and about 1" forward of the rear edge of the cowl vent. This photo gives you a good look.

The transmission probably needs a basic maintenance,try changing the transmission filter and fluid,this may clear the problem right up.Check the fluid t see if its a reddish brown color and cloudy,if it is its time to be changed.
