Could be the shifter housing seal if it is transmission oil that it leaks. The easiest way to find the leak is to spray engine degreaser around the entire area (liberally). Let it sit for about 15 minutes then clean off the area with a high pressure water hose and repeat until the area is cleaned off. Degreaser works best when the engine/transmission are WARM but not hot. Never pour water on a hot engine.....EVER!! Let the area dry and inspect it with a flashlight and mirror. After it it overnight, inspect it again...and again and so on. You should be able to pinpoint where it is coming from.

How do I check the transmission fluid on my 2007 hyundai elantra manual transmission

manual transmissions don't normally use flowing fluids for lubrication they use gear lubrication oil/grease these are heavy hi viscosity (maple syrup like) and don't flow like water like automatic trans do , ck'ing there level is a bit specific to what type of lube they use , a Hyundai uses Oil so there will be a pipe plug up on drivers side of trans near top (sorry no dipstick) un screwing this will allow one to use a Non metal object to stick in and see if oil is up to hole (reaching it) , of course obvious(wet look) signs of leakage (at drive shaft and clutch cover ) are a sure sign you have a leak and level is low , wet clutch covers aren't allways a sign of a leaking transmission but to one of a leaking clutch slave cylinder(common problem on Hyundai's) this is the device that moves clutch inside , ck oil level in clutch master cylinder to confirm this

My jeep liberty 02 is using too much oil. I putting about 1qt every week? and I do not see where is leaking from.

There are many places a vehicle can leak oil from. If you want to find it yourself please try looking from underneath the vehicle and finding any wet oil spots. Be ready to get dirty. Try to keep using disposable towels to dab spots and follow the spots that come away wet until you find the highest wet spot. The rear-main seal on many engines start leaking or the leak may be at the head gasket. The space under the hood on the 02 Liberty is very cramped and hard to see. I would advise taking it to 2 different mechanics for quotes and seeing about what it would cost. Engine work on your "daily driver" vehicle can be more than you want to pay but if you don't get this fixed the leak may worsen, possibly to the point of stranding you or damaging the engine.

Just bought last week have an oil leak in driveway the oil is light brown in color what could it be..

oil cooler lines, transmission pan, power steering leaking or axle seals. All are pretty common.

IF you open up the access cover for the oil filter you will see the cooler lines. If they are wet with oil you found the first leak.

The trans pan will be wet if the gasket is leaking

the front axle seal will be wet right where the axles go in the front end.

The power steering pump, lines, gear box will be wet if they are leaking.

Is your car a standard transmission or automatic? Could be transmission fluid. Does it look or feel like oil?

Where is the antifreeze going? cracked head or blown head gasket? This is a 4.0 with 217,000 miles . Did they have a problem with heads cracking??? Houston

Faulty head/head gaskets will usually show up as oil in your antifreeze. It'll be a brownish grey color with darker "spots" floating around. You could be leaking out of your water pump or w. pump gasket. It may only leak here while it's running and a small enough leak would be obliterated by the fan, leaving no visible evidence. Feel around the bottom of the gasket and see if it's wet when you park it next time. Make sure your radiator cap is tight and in good shape. Could be evaporating from there.

How to diagnose an oil pan leak

If you have an automatic trans there should be a metal plate just after the rear seal of the motor. If you can remove the shield and see rust, good. If it has red oil, bad, its the trans. You will be able to see if the rear main of the engine is leaking by the oil on the torque converter and flywheel. You may just need to gently tighten the pan bolts which may loosen by themselves.

1987 s10 pickup transmission leaking. two spots , Governor cover and from some sort of cable going from the transmission to the throttle body

The govenor cover has an o-ring seal. No problem, just be sure NOT to let the govenor fall out. Remove the cover with a screwdriver by tapping it outward with a hammer, gently. The throttle valve cable has a rubber seal, you can get from any trans shop. Unhook it from the top/throttle body first. Leave it mounted in the brackets. Then remove the bolt holding it into the trans, pull up and un hook the throttle valve linkage. Be sure to reinstall this in the reverse order. If when you go to hook it back up top pull the cable. You should feel spring tension on the cable if so then you have it right. Good Luck
