Check your base timing, it may be retarded too much. Base timing is usually on the order of a few degrees BTDC, it is without engine computer input which can advance the timing over a wide range. Follow manufacturer's procedure for setting or adjusting base timing. It may be shown on the VECI label or sticker under the hood.

High on...what? Food? lol, you're feeding it too much. Check for trouble codes, maybe it is running rich.

A defective upstram O2 snesor will cause the engine to operate in the "limp mode", which is the ECU\'s attempt to save the engine since it has no combustion efficiency feedback. The engine will run "rich" and the timing may be retarded as well. You will notice the lack of power and poor fuel efficiency.

Perfect timing for fuel efficiency and power is 3 degrees before it causes audible valve ping or knock when the engine is hot and under full acceleration up a hill. To get close with the distrib, advance it (turn it) from a retarded position at 2500 rpm until smooth running gives way to slight kicking. You will feel and hear it. Lock it down and road test, listening for the valve knock. Backfire is more associated with retarded timing.

Yes. The knock sensor is located in the engine block, the knock sensor retards ignition timing during a spark knock condition to allow the E.C.M. ( electronic control module) to maintain maximum timing advance under most conditions.

How can i increase or decrease settings? rpm low when warming and running low during normal operations? checked timing it's a 0 tdc. increasing idle speed works with rpm setting and carb?


What is Make, Model ,Year, and Engine?

Does this have a distributor?

Many GM's run a few degrees advance of TDC (Top Dead Center) on ignition timing.

If it has a carburetor, be sure to unhook and plug the vacuum dashpot advance line .

It sounds to me me like you're experiencing a retarded timing condition, which, among other things could cause a slower than normal idle.

If it's out that far & you didn't say advanced or retarded, then there's a mechanical issue at hand,more than likely. Use a vaccuum guage & see what happens. If it's reading below 15, better check the timing chain. Could also be a blocked cat converter. The timing is computer controlled & rarely has a problem. Factory is 10 degrees advanced & doesn't change no matter what unless you unplug the coolant sensor & move the distributor. So if it's 12 advanced,no big issue,it's something else causing the lack of power. If it's retarded,you got the timing chain issue more than likely. Write back if you need more help.

it can also be an oxygen sensor for your fuel, i had the same issue with my malibu at one time.
