Brakes have little to no pressure and sounds like air traveling from master cylinder when pedal is depressed, wha t do I replace?

Did you get a good bleed with fluid coming out at all four wheels? If they bled good, and the pedal still goes to the floor, you need to check the brake master cylinder-it is probably shot with an internal leak. An internal leak will not let fluid pressure build up, so no brakes.

Did you keep the brake fluid reservoir from going dry while bleeding? If it went real low, air might have got back into the lines.

It is not uncommon when bleeding brakes on an older vehicle for the master cylinder to suddenly develop an internal leak and require replacement . Here's why: pushing the pedal all the way to the floor causes the master's piston to push in farther than ever before. The rubber cups then travel over a section of the cylinder not usually touched by the cups-old fluid can develop a crud there and when the piston pushes over it, the cups can get ruined. To avoid this when bleeding brakes, put a short piece of 2X4 wood block under the pedal. Then the pedal will not extend the master's piston beyond it's normal travel. Of course on a new master cylinder, you do not have to do this. A new master cylinder does require bench bleeding before installing, however, to ensure no air pockets develop from there.

Replaced brakelines know pedal goes to floor


You either have a leak in the the system or your master cylinder is bad and allowing the pedal to push through the cylinder without bulding pressure. Check all the wheels for signs of a leak, if none and the brake fluid resivoir is full then the master cylinder on the back of the firewall is bad. These can be rebuilt very cheaply and you can do this yourself with parts from the parts store.

Tried to bleed brakes after replacing caliper-no brake fluid will flow out- is the master cylinder the problem?


Well, if you change a caliper or a brake line the fluid in the master cylinder should remain, even if the fluid leaks out.

However, if you are having trouble bleeding regularly, then use a vacuum pump with a 'can' or use a pressure bleeder (I prefer this method) that costs about $55 or so available on the Internet.

If you use a pressure bleeder, you'll need an extra master cylinder cap that has a hole drilled in it to accomodate the fittings of the pressure bleeder.

I know someone who had a Lincoln Continental that changed a brake line and had trouble bleeding it, and they used a vacuum pump and it bled easily using that method.

Some cars require that when you change the master cylinder, a brake scan tool is required to bleed the master cylinder that has air in it. But, if you did not replace the master cylinder, you should be able to use either the vacuum or pressure method to bleed the brakes easily.

Air pressure sound when i push on the brakes


air pressure sound may come from a leaky vacuum hose or bad check valve at the booster or master cylinder.

But, I think that it's normal to hear a soft hissing sound when depressing the brake pedal which comes from hydraulic fluid going through the passage ways.

Is the pedal hard?

this noise is caused by a defective power brake vacuum booster, (big round thing behind the master cylinder) the diaphragm is leaking vacuum.

Brake pedal goes too far down. Brakes still stop car fine. Too much pedal travel. 2005 model year.


You have to check your master cylinder, pump your brake several times and hold it, see if is going down to the bottom, if does, the master cylinder is wrong, check the brake pressure hose, maybe you have some air in your brake lines, be sure you have enough brake fluid

2005 Equinox Brake Problems


My 03 trailblazer does the same thing and the service dept. told me that it was normal for this model to do that, it has never failed to stop but if your sitting at a red light you can feel the peddle go down to almost the floor but it stops fine and it has done this since day 1 and they say thats normal on the trailblazer.
