Do you have a check engine light on? If not then you have a defective gage, the gage is a computer generated display and you will need to remove the instrument cluster and send it out to be rebuilt. Cost about $250

I had my 2006 grand prix fix 3 times for the tempature gage and stilss the gage goes over the 3 line

I think you should start thinking it might not be the gage itself but >Problem with the wires in the circuit itself Also warm car up take a thermometer & check coolant tempature cross referance with temp gauge in the car

You need a new starter solenoid. It is essentially a heavy duty remote switch that is activated by your ignition key switch. The solenoids get stuck or don't conduct well after 6 to10 years.

It is a defective temp. sender, or faulty gauge in the instrument cluster either way you will need to have it diagnosed properly. One repair is cheap, one is very expensive
