You need to do a wet compression test and by that i mean to squirt about a table spoon of motor oil in each cylinder you are testing and then attach a compression tester remove all spark plugs first add a table spoon of motor oil then crank the engine over about 5 cranks and check what the compression of each cylinder. the cylinder or cylinders should be within 75% of the highest cylinder if not there could be internal problems such as valves or rings

2.2 MIS FIREON NUMBER 3 2008 MALIBU

HI if a compression test on cyl 3 is fine ,the next step check coil pack if independent coil swop with a functioning cyl (eg 2 ) ,If this repairs the problem coil should be changed.Do check wires connecting to coil for continuity on power and ground supply. In some rare cases the above answers are over powered by a faulty ignition module .

Do a Cylinder leak Down Test

You may have bad Valves

Always start with a cylinder contribution test, then
cyl leak down,to check mechanical integrety, before
you start throwing parts at other things

Cylinder 3 misfire on a 2002 Nissan Maxima SE, rough idle, SES light flash temorarily when accelerating.

most likely an ignition coil failure.try moving the #3 cyl. ignition coilto another cyl.and see if the miss follows the coil to the other cyl.if so...bad coil.

93' cavalier, very rough running. Missing badly at all speeds and loads, including at idle in park. changed plugs and no change in symptons. Is this an injected motor (4 cyl)?

Yes it is fuel injected. If it runs but has no power there is a good chance that an ignition coil went bad and there would be no spark to two cylinders. Cylinders 1 and 4 are partners on the same coil and 2 and 3 are partners. Usually these cars if an injector goes bad they have an external leak.
You can try to listen to them by holding a screw driver to each on while its running but I don't think
that will be your problem anyway.Another giveaway for the coil could be a gas smell like it is partially flooded. When you changed the plugs were any of them wet with fuel ? There is also a chance that if the engine works ok at highway speeds that the egr valve is stuck open. This causes
rough running at idle and bad hesitation until highway speed is achieved. Hope this helps or let me know and we'll figure it out.

Have fault code P0302 on 2001 VW Beetle. No it is Cylinder 2 misfire. What is likely cause, bad spark plug, wire, or Electronic ignition box?

this car has what is called coil over ignition which means no plug wires or cap so if it is missing swap coil from cyl 2 and any other cyl then clear code and rerun car till light comes back on then check code if it is still cyl 2 missfire then replace that plug if code changes to the cylinder that 2's coil was on then replace that coil <that car does have a recall for coils> if car is not missing and you have that code most likely isnt an ignition problem but will have a small vaccume leak so check the small hoses for leaks. very common for fuel preasure regulater vaccume hose to brake from age

I would have the ignition coils checked to make sure that they are still functioning properly. I don't know if you have an advanced auto parts near you, but for my girlfriend I just replaced all (3) ignition coils. They were $24 each so it wasn't that bad. Cleared her problem right up. I also replaced the plugs and plug wires at the same time. She was having the same symptoms. When you open up the hood if you look to the left near the battery you will see a collection of cables running from the ignition coils. If you have the V6 there should be 3 ignition coils and 2 spark plug wires running from each one. To remove the ignition coils if you want to remove them simply use a 5.5 mm socket and an extension. there is a mini bolt on each side. Only do these one at a time so you don't get them confused. It is essential that each ignition coil corresponds with the correct cyclinder so that the engine will fire properly.

Runs like ****

you dont need to ground your ht lead, infact that could damage your ignition system, if in fact removing it from the plug does make it worse you then know that this cyl was firing and that ignition on this particular cyl is not your problem.
