The boot can be replaced, but you have to dissassemble the joint to install it, check the balls and surfaces for any sign of wear or pitting, and use all the grease from the kit

Is there a company that makes a "split CV boot" for this?

Why on earth would you want one. The are the most worthless idea they ever developed. It's not even financially practical to replace only a boot these days. You can buy a complete remanufactured axle for most cars for under $60 and if the boot has been torn for any amount of time, the joint will be bad anyway. The extra labor to disassemble the axle to change a boot more than covers the cost of the whole axle.

My front of my car vibrates like crazy everytime I accelerate and turn right but when I let off the has it stops

Sounds like maybe a busted motor mount or transmission mount, or a worn out cv drive axle.Look under the front of the car at the drive axles there is 4 rubber boots 2 on each axle inner boot and outer boot.See if one or more of the boots is torn or split.

Steering system knocks and makes noise at low speed turning. Is it a maintenance thing ?

Hi, check your drive axle CV joints. If the boots are torn, the joints are usually bad. A worn out CV joint will pop when you make a tight turn. If a CV joint is bad, I recommend replacing the whole axle, as the labor is much less than replacing just the joint. Please let me know if you have questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

Front end makes noise when turning. Could this be tire rods or axle problem. I had motor mounts replaced when the mounts went bad could this the moving motor cause damage to front wheel area?

yes, popping when turning is usually caused by worn out CV joints in axles. Check for torn CV boots. When a boot tears, dirt gets into the joint a wears it prematurely. If you find tears, it is easiest to replace the whole half-axle than to fix the CV. Let me know if you have more questions.

Cv boots torn do I need to replace axels

no but it is easier to replace the whole axle, and fairly cost effective considering the amount of work and the special tools to make the job of replacing the boots easier (slidehammer with attachment etc.) and very messy.
If the inside boots are torn take a close look at your motor mounts. they could be bad and cause the inner boots to tear.

Mechanic says i need new front axles......

Usually once the boot is torn, dirt goes in, and all of the lubricant goes out. If you have been driving it this way, it will damage things faster. Normally you hear a "click" when turning out of a bad cv joint. It is a safer solution to just replace both, but of coarse, not cheaper.

I am not sure if i should change the cvboot or the whole axle.

duallycorvet: I'm afraid the CV joints are well beyond the point of replacing the boots. At this point the axle must be replaced.
Sorry.>>>>>>>>>>
Good news is that the axles are actually cheaper than it would be to replace the boots anyway!
Good Luck.

How often to replace cv boots/cv joints/axle?

If something off the road tore the boot, yes but if it has not been tore long and you don't hear any clicking noises around corners, you can just replace the boot.

94 Geo Prizm CV or driveaxle?

on this type of vehichle, you have two axles in the front; one going to each side. Chances are that the boot at the axle joint was torn and that is why you are having problem. In teh past people used to replace the boot, this day and age its actually cheaper to replace the axle. So you would need to replace that side of the axle (the half shaft).
