When i turn the key to i hear the pump priming (or whatever it does), then when you turn it the rest of the way to actually start the car, it makes no noise at all and makes no attempt to turn the engine over.is there an easy place to start troubleshooting? i have already put over 1300$ into the car recently. if possible i would like to fix it myself.
Every car of this type has two engines the main engine and start engine, sometimes the start engine goes stucked there are two ways to solve the pro way and the home made way, for the first one go to a pro mechanic and ask to clean up the carboons inside the start engine, he will dismount it open it and clean it by grinding it. For the second way you can unlock the start engine by two ways if you don't want to go under your car you may put the gear lever of your car in 1st then shift the contact key until panel lights go on then push your car back and forward several times then try to start the car by the key. If it doesn't work open the hood look at the battery there may be 2 red wires that go together a thick one and thin one where this cables end is the start engine check if both cables are well fit into their places, if not try to fit them, if they are well fitted then take a spanner and you may see that the start engine is compound by two cilinders hit both cilinders with the spanner not to hard not to soft and then try to start the engine by the key again. What happens exactly here is that inside the start engine there is a clockwise rotor sometimes by the use it goes stucked because the inside carboons sulphate, by pushing the car geared up you provoque this rotor to turn by force releasing it, by hitting the cilinders of the start engine you provoque some of this sulphate to fall down and release the rotor,. Any way you may take it to a pro mechanic to clean this carboons so it will work better. Good luck

FUEL PUMP ONLY HUM'S FOR 2 SECONDS WHEN YOU TURN KEY TO ON, NOT START, POSITION. YOU CANNOT HEAR PUMP RUN WHEN CAR IS RUNNING ! THIS 2 SEC., IS THE PUMP PRIMING ITSELF TO START ENGINE. YOU MIGHT BE HEARING EITHER THE POWER STEERING OR WHATEVER, NOT THE FUEL PUMP!!!!!! GIVEN THE YEAR OF THIS CAR, YOUR FUEL PUMP COULD BE BAD, CHECK FUSES, RELAY, GROUND WIRES, TO PUMP, ALSO CHANGE YOUR FUEL FILTER !!!!! AIR FILTER ALSO !!!!!!! SPARK PLUG WIRES SHOULD ALSO BE REPLACED !!!!
Possibly burned out the fuel pump. Lay next to the truck with your head by the gas tank. Have your wife turn the key on but not crank the engine. You should hear a light whirring sound of the pump priming and it will last a few seconds and stop. If you don't hear the pump priming, thump the tank near the sending unit as she turn the key. If it runs, you'll need to replace the pump. If it still doesn't run, check the fuse. If the fuse is good and you have a volt meter you can trace the wires to the pump and check for voltage (12) as the key is turned on. If it has voltage, replace the pump.
Turn the ignition key to the ON position without starting the engine
You should hear the fuel pump priming for about a few seconds then shutting itself off.
If not hear replace the engine oil pressure switch
The 3rd wire to that switch is the pumps prime switch lead.
When the engines oil pressure is reached the computer will shut that circuit off and turn on the fuel pump relay
If you hear the pump prime the relay maybe at fault instead
If you ran out of gas, then you will need to perform the following. Turn the key to the on position (do not start). Turn key off. Repeat the process a few more times. Also, have someone help you, for when you turn the key to on, you should be able to hear the fuel pump hum. After a few times, try starting the vehicle. Air has gotten trapped in the fuel injectors. By turning the key a few times, it primes the injectors. If it still will not start, or you cannot hear the fuel pump, then have it checked out. Hope that works. Let me know.
First check the spark up at the engine. Also turn the key to the on position with out turning it over and listen and see if the fuel pump primes. You should hear it hum. Thats where I would start anyway. If you don't hear it prime, then the fuel pump is out. If it is running and you are getting spark, then you may have to hook up a fuel pressure gauge to it and make sure you are getting enough pressure.
go out and sit in your car with the door open turn on the ignition key and when you turn it on you should hear the fuel pump prime in the gas tank, if you hear it prime up then its something else. If you don't its the pump.
More likely the fuel pump.........check for power to the pump on the gray wire at the fuel pump connector at the tank.(wires from the tank)You should see a prime cycle voltage as you turn the key on...if the key has been off 15 seconds. If you see a test light, light.......change the fuel pump. Tip....a lot of relays are the same in the relay center....switch the fuel pump relay for one of the (same) others to test it if needed.
Before you do this....sit in the car and turn on the key to run.....not start.......do you hear the pump do it's prime cycle? Total silence means.......in 99% of cases...a new fuel pump is needed. If you hear it.......no pump should be needed....look elsewhere first.
try restting the inertia switch in the trunk. When you turn key to "ON", the fule pump will run for only 5 seonds if the engine does not start. Listen at the fuel tank for humming of the pump.
The PCM, Powertrain Control Module controls the fuel pump relay. So, when you turn key on, the power relay powers up the PCM and the PCM powers up the fuel pump relay.
i dont know if this will help but i needed new spark plugs and wires and something called a leak pump which had something to do with the fuel line so have it check for one of those problems, that just may be it. i hope that this helps you.
