Question about 1998 Ford Escort
I own a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2. It has lost a lot of power, and shakes really bad when driving. The shake decreases while idling, and after the engine warms up, but I still have no power. The engine seems to be using a lot more gas also. I have changed the spark plugs, but it did not help. There are no warning/check engine lights coming on, and everythin else seems to perform normally. I don't know what to do next. Plezase help !
The fuel filter should be replaced every 2 years. It is easy to do since it is on the firewall. You don't even have to get under the car. Low fuel pressure can cause the issues you described. A dirty air filter can do this as well as bad spark plug wires. These cars are picky about the type of spark plugs you use as well. None of the gimming (+2, +4, splitfire) plugs should be used. I've had best luck with Motorcraft and Autolite plugs.
