Am a technician, just need some electrical info about cooling fans. what fuses, where are those fuses and possibly a wiring diagram.

  • gdi6432375 May 06, 2010

I understand operation and theory of the cooling fan . This one works through a relay that is grounded (switched) at the ECU. Just was hoping to maybe get a diagram of this particular car so that I will not short out anything along the way.

  • gdi6432375 May 06, 2010

Have ground at the fan connector but no power. Pressure switch(thermostat) is functioning. need diagram to be able to determine if the auto a/c ecu supplies power to the fans or if it sends a signal to the engine ECU to turn them on and if power is supplied by the ECU or if it switches a relay for the power to the fans. And where that relay might be if not done by the ECU.Thanks for your help. Let me know if you can help me or not.

Trying to find out poower source to the cooling fans while auto a/c is onI know pressure switch is powered up from a/c control unit. does it send a signal to The Engine Control Unit. And does the ECU turn them on or is it powered up by a relay and if so where is it?

need to find relay location as per this manufacturer they are not marked and I am having trouble getting info. any help would be greatly appreciated/.

First thing would be to test the relay(s) with an ohmmeter. If relays test good, then test the temp sensor

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. The a/c and heating systems on cars today are pretty complex. 10 years ago replacing the thermostat usually did the trick, but today there are electric motors that operate the "blend doors" inside the dash…directing air flow from the heater core and A/C evaporator core to the cab of the vehicle. Always start by checking the actual coolant level inside the radiator itself to make sure it is full. Then feel the upper and lower radiator hoses to see if they are hot (when the engine has been running awhile and has reached normal operating temperature), then feel the two heater hoses leading into the cab of the vehicle to see if they are both hot as well. If you feel a drastic difference in one of the radiator hoses, replace the thermostat. If all the heater and radiator hoses are pretty much the same temperature I would suspect there is a control problem in the dash controls or in the blend door operation and a visit to dealer or a qualified mechanic is vital. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

    That’s very
nice that you are a technician. However, the issue might be with the motor and
not the fuses. Please see the links for details as desire---

    You’re
absolutely right but unfortunately I don’t have the wiring diagram of the car
in question. However, I’ll keep a tab on this and transmit in a due course.

    Thanks

My 2005 Cadillac escalade is running hot change thermostat and flushed out radiator still running hot when released cap it was a lot of pressure coming from coolant

the 3 easiest things/ tests to do would be these,

1 remove cap from cooling system and run until at operating temp, check for bubbles in cooling system, if bubbles then there is a head gasket failure ( exhaust gases in the system )

2 check cooling fans to see if working, most have a high and low, for under a light or heavy load.

3 could have a water pump that has a failed impeller and not circulating coolant

Cooling fan will not turn on

The cooling fan is controlled by sensors in the cooling system so providing that you can move the fan blades easily and you have current getting to them I would be having a code reading to check for failing sensors. As to the a/c problem the compressor operation is controlled by 3 switches 1 switch is the heater fan must be on as well as the ac switch --2 is a switch that turns the compressor off if the head pressure is excessive and 3 is a low pressure switch that turns the compressor off if the pressure is too low (no gas). have a ac mechanic check out the system for leaks

Why wont my A/C Compressor and High Coolant Fans Engage?

Check for broken wiring, blown fuses, possible bad relays, and look at the pressure switch. Some systems have a high pressure switch (some have a low pressure also) that prevent the compressor from running. If it is faulty or damaged, it could be preventing the compressor from running. Wire damage could be possible with front end damage.

HIGH PRESSURE CUTOFF SWITCH LOCATED ON AC COMPRESSOR DISCHARGE LINE LEADING TO THE CONDENSOR.THE HIGH PRESSURE CUTOFF SWITCH WILL CUT OFF THE AC COMPRESSOR IF SYSTEM PRESSURE RISES TO HIGH CAUSED BY RESTRICTION IN THE REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT OR OVERHEATED CONDENSOR.MAKE SURE COOLING FAN IS RUNNING WHEN THE AC SWITCH IS ON.THE COOLING FAN KEEP CONDENSOR COOL, IF COOLING FAN DONT RUN.YOUR AC WILL STOP BLOWING COLD AIR.HAVE THE REFRIGERANT SYSTEM CHECK OUT.MAKE SURE YOUR LOW SIDE PRESSURE IS 10 - 37 PSI. THE HIGH SIDE PRESSURE SHOULD BE 112 - 210 PSI. CHECK THE AC COMPRESSOR CLUTCH FUSE AND RELAY.

I would make sure that the electric fan clutch is coming on. Sounds like the a/c compressor may be building up high head pressure and the fan clutch is not drawing air through the condensor to cool it down.

What powers the cooling fan motors my ac is not cooling properly the motors come on, but they are not turning fast enough. got straight power to motors, they both work ok.

you may find that the cooling fans only run at half speed when the a/c is on they might be set that way & run at full speed when the engine starts to overheat (in stop & go traffic) the a/c may need regassing that's why it is not cooling properly.....hope this helps...... cheers..

2002 malibu runs hot.

Sounds like you have a faulty head gasket or maybe a cracked head. This can cause overheating and the check engine light to come on.The code for the o2 sensor is probably caused by coolant getting into the exhaust system and coating the sensor. The coolant fan may work but it cannot remove enough heat from the rad to make the engine cool off.Try some engine coolant stop leak to see if it will help. This maybe only a temperary fix.Let me know if you need more.MOE

My car ran extremely hot would not start after fluid was added and after it cooled off. It is now running extremely rough and very slow to start. I thank that I may have blown a head gasket any thoughts

sound like a blown head gasket and a worped head, when removing head for gasket replacement check head for flatness also preasure test it for cracks and leaks. find cause of over heating replace cap, radiator, thermostate, hoses
