Question about 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

1 Answer

8.1 liter gas engine has been hard to start for the last 4 days. Usually after it sits awhile. Seems to run OK, but takes 2 or 3 tries to get running. No "check engine" light. Fuel filter?

Fuel pump should not be bad with only 43,000 miles. To the best of my knowledge the filter has never been changed. Also, I paid for the premium chat and have been waiting for over 30 min. fo the chat to take place, and nothing as yet!

It's a 2003 Chevy Silverado 8.1 liter gas eng. Allison 5 spd. auto trans. It's got 43,200 miles. it runs very good, but when it sits for awhile, it takes 2 or 3 tries to get started. Not getting a "check eng." light. just the 3 try startups. As far as I know, the fule filter has never been changed, but regular oil changes, air filter, etc.

Sorry I could not figure out how to get back to you. I am new. I would have the fuel pump check out, chevrolet had problems with them going out. I had one go out at 22,000 miles. The explanation from factory is The gasoline level should never be under 1/4 tank. The fuel pump is cooled by the gasoline and when run low the pump runs hot a it dies. Hope I got back to you in time. Weak fuel pumps first signal is hard starting but run good after starting. They just hardly pump with enough pressure to fire the injectors but once started the alternator brings the voltage up and then the pump works. Will quit eventually though. Darrell Sorenson

2007 mitsubishi eclipse hard to start after filling up tank. No check engine light on. Bad starter?

Maybe the carbon cannister is loaded up. Try parking the car facing uphill and see if that's better.

Starter is probably OK. Need more symptoms. OR it will be 20 question time. Takes a LONG time cranking B-4 the engine begins to run? That's what I'm guessing.

Does nothing to take the key back out and try it again.Just keep cranking until the engine starts to run.Don't be afraid to crank it for 15 seconds,or so.

1995 Buick LeSabre 3.8 Liter Wont start unless I push down on gas pedal like it wants more gas, Why? Runs OK when running

Possibly a bad or dirty Idle Air Control motor. The engine computer controls the operation of this motor to control idle speed. A pintle on the motor extends and retracts, according to signal from the computer. The pintle controls an air passage below it to give or take away air during idle -when the throttle shaft is closed, no air will get into the engine through the throttle body except through the idle air passage . The IAC motor or valve is on the throttle body, with a 4 wire connector. Take it off and look for carbon or coking deposits around the valve's pintle, and in the air passage beneath it. With the idle valve off, plug the connector back on it, then watch the pintle as the key is turned to on. If there is no movement whatsoever, the motor is probably bad.

I have also heard that a bad coolant temperature sensor can cause such a hard start. If the computer does not know the engine is cold, it won't put enough gas into the cylinders for easy starts. The engine needs more gas to start and run when cold.

Tranmission will not shift into next gear from

Try changing the transmission fluid and transmission fluid filter. It is a fairly easy but kind of messy job. Just buy the new fluid and filter, Grab your metric socket set and go at it. NEVER WORK UNDERNEATH A HOT VEHICLE. You have to pull the transmission pan to do this job. When you break the gasket seal several quarts (liters) of transmission fluid will cascade down on you. Be ready for it. Don't forget that when it stops draining there is still a lot of fluid left in the pan. When you finish cleaning up the fluid clean the gunk out of the pan. Install the new filter and reinstall the pan with a new gasket. Do not over torque the pan or filter bolts. If you strip them out or break them off you will need professional help to repair it. Refill the transmission with fluid. It should take six or seven liters.

Isuzu B/horn 3.0 hard start.

for this problem only 3 cause would be there.
1 check your battery -ve (body earthing) is it properly tighten and end of wire is soldered .
if ok
2 take one trail for 3 to 4 hr. with another service battery, if you found the problem is solved then replace battery.
if not then last possibility is
3 check starter motor may problem with armature and carbon bursh, replace that.

Gas in the oil

t/b will usually not cause this as there is no way for it to get into the oil from there. do i leak down test on the cylinders to check the condition of your rings. most of the time that is where the fuel is getting in.

91 toyota 4runner having hard time starting

First thing i would try is a fuel filter. I understand that it seems like it's getting too much, but it might be the opposite. Next, i would change spark plugs, and wires. You should also look for vacuum leaks. Make sure all your bolts are tight, and vac lines are tight, and in good condition. When you have it running, wiggle them around and listen closely for a hissing sound. Use a stethoscope or a length of vacuum hose held to your ear with the engine running.

Hard starting after sitting awhile

My 98 Jimmy runs on synthetic oil and starts well after sitting in cold weather. If the weather is the problem, try checking that. If it is warm... sorry no ideas.
