Question about 2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer
When idling(ie at red light), with ac on #4 setting, the engine shuts down. It restarted and ran fine with ac still on mentioned setting. Later that same day while adding freon, ac was running on high (#6 setting) and after about ten minutes, the engine shuts down. It restarted fine, but later while driving with ac on #4 setting, a sound simular to air being blown off could be heard in short sudden burst on several occassions, the vehicle **** as if the the engine had lost power temporarily, but would keep running. It ran fine after. Vehicle is 2004 with 57000 miles. Should these incidents be of serious concern?
Sounds as if the A/C Compressor has issues with the clutch/shaft locking up.... the blow off you heard was probably the pressure relief valve allowing an over charge of freon escape the system....however if the A/C system has a compressor problem or a clog that condition will also happen....can you have someone put a set of high/low gauges on it just for safety sake to be sure it is not developing too high of a head pressure...that would be my recoomendation....if the compressor locks up the belt can be thrown off causing your vehicle to require a tow/repair on the spot.
