Question about 2006 Renault Le Car
I have a 2004 Renault Espace 2.2dci which appears to be getting noisier on acceleration. It accelerates fine but makes a real 'gruff' sound. It doesn't appear to be the exhaust as it seems louder inside the car. I am worried it is something related to the clutch or gearbox? The engine has been serviced a couple of months ago - with no outstanding error codes. I have had the car about a year and it seems to be getting worse - unless I am just becoming more conscious of it as my other car is much quieter, and this is characteristic of this engine!?
It sounds to me like a gearbox bearing problem if your gearbox has the markings PK4 or PK6 then I can almost guarantee you from personal experience as I have reconditioned these type of gearbox many times before, that the bearing are the main problem.
As a first solution you could try replacing the gearbox oil and see if there is any difference in the noise given otherwise the gearbox will need to be replaced or reconditioned.
I hope this information was somehow helpful!

I had exactly same noise on mine, was the top engine stabiliser (fits on o/s/f inner wing)
