Try a quick test for a bad starter draw.... with the lites on turn to start... do the lights dim off?? If they do first make sure the battery cables are making a good connection?clean em....next if you can remove the battery, get a battery test usually done free at an Auto Zone Parts Store. If all else proves ok...the problem sounds like a defective starter motor/solenoid they usually come as a complete unit these days and are upwards of 90.00 - 200.00 parts without labor.

Car won't start

Have read this twice and based on what you have indicated I think that maybe you have an intermittently operating fuel pump - sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. And while you are it, U might just want to check to make sure that the pump is always being energized -see if there is a loose connection somewhere that could result in the pump not running at times. If you have access to a voltmeter have your husband hook it up to the hot line and a good ground and have the meter in the car next to you. The moment you turn the ignition on the meter must register 12 volts or more. And once on, there is no cutting off - it stays at 12 volts at all times and any excess fuel pumped is returned back to the gas tank. Good luck.

Car clicks but wont start, lights come on

It sounds like maybe the starter solenoid is defective, they are prone to this type of problem and your description exactly fits. In order to repair this you must remove the starter from the car and either replace it or repair it with a new solenoid.

Check engin light is on?

ok the fuel system is a sealed unit. so try taking the red cable off the battery . ( ONLY ) try starting you car this will drain the car of the electricity from the car. ( not the battery so dont worry. ) hook the cable back up and restart your car. if that does not work your going to have to bring it to a shop. it wont cost much

1999 jeep cheroke sport died while driving and wouldn't restart.

i had the same thing happen last year. it was a bad chip. i had to take it to the dealership to have the chip replaced. it cost about 200.00. it was not a big deal at all. after that though, my freeze plug busted and my alternator went out. but now all those problems are fixed. how come when you get a car paid off, everything starts going wrong??

Cold morn - not starting. Car was moved a few feet night before.

OK, so starting the engine uses a lot of battery power, and the engine needs to be left running a while to recharge the battery.
When it is cold batterys don't hold as much charge (not quite the correct technical term, but I don't want to go into battery mechanics and chemistry here). You either need to pop it on a trickle charger or let it run for at least 15 minutes.

2001 Pontiac Bonneville won't start

have you not left any load on overnight?..like park light or left the door partially open and the dome light would be left on?

have the battery recharge and the next night, make sure that no light would be left on the car.

if it would drain out again, have it recharged again, use it and on the night, make sure no light is left on the car, then remove the positive pole on the battery overnight.

the next morning, put the positive cable back and start the car.

if the car would start, then no problem with the battery, if the car would not start, then return the battery because it is defective.

tnx 4 using fixya,
