2003 Silverado 1500: I replaced both front calipers, bled the lines and...

I replaced both front calipers bled the lines and cannot get any pressure to build.

I would try to bleed them again. Something is wrong there, did you replace the pads? How about the rotors? Are they ok. The vacuum line to the power brake booster, check it. Fill up the reservoir and bleed the fronts again, keep an eye on the reservoir, make sure it doesn't go dry. Make sure the person pumping the pedal doesn't take his foot off till the nut is tightened back up. Hope this helps.

Probably still have air in the lines. You may want to purchase one of the one-man pressure bleeder outfits. How they work is to force fluid into the bleed valves, thus filling the calipers or wheel cylinders, then pushing the air on up the line to the master cylinder, where the air has a chance to escape-out the top of the master cylinder.

Have you checked the master brake cylinder reservoir for brake fluid loss?

I don't suspect the master cylinder as you have replaced it... but am more suspect of a leaking brake line or fitting which should have
been discovered when you had the system bled.

The only time I ever had a rear brake problem with a 2500 series Chevrolet was due to seized rear brake caliper guide pins...as your calipers are also new that is not your problem.

If your brake pedal feels spongy and travels to the floor board you have air in the system, a brake fluid leak or a failure in the power steering system, such as a broken hose, broken power steering pump drive belt, or failed pump, would result in a loss of pressure to both the hydro-boost and steering.

If there's no pedal pressure, you've still got air in the brake pipes or you've got an open fluid circuit. Look for leaks, if none they need bleeding again.

Replaced bad break lines on 2000 chevy 1500. Getting fluid to rear but not front. Bled master cly. getting pressure on front line but not rear.


Open and allow the fluid to flow out as there can be air lock in the tubing to the rear. so remove the tubing once again if there is no flow and clear with an air pressure.
There after connect to bleed off the front/rear in unison to remove all air lock.

Brake pedal goes to floor.......pads, rotors and calibers are new, lines have been bled.


Sounds like it is not completely bled. I would bench bleed the master cylinder first and then bleed to whole system again. The calipers take quite a bit of fluid and it sounds like you may have ingested air during the bleeding process. Start from the left rear and then right rear, then right front and then left front. Make sure you keep the master cylinder full during bleeding because it can **** air if low and you will not notice. It takes a while to do it correctly unless you have a pressure bleeder.

Pistons in both front calipers stay out, both calipers replaced


You may have a leak in the booster or master cylinder. You can put a pressure tester on the system to test for leaks. It does sound like you have an air leak.
You can try to bleed the master cylinder, then slave cylinder, then brake lines.

2001 silverado 1500, just put on new pads rotors and 1 new caliper, the brakes are spungy, the wheel with the new caliper is sticking and the front passanger brake too, i cant figure out why.


Replace both front brake hoses.....they collapse on the inside and will not allow fluid to retract...caliper was probobly fine.....this happens a lot....good luck...Lee

It is a T-55 sometimes easy othe time a pain in the ****. You will need to turn the wheel in and throw a bar on it. Now if only I knew the torque specs for the caliper an mounting bracket...
