Question about 2003 Volkswagen Jetta TDI
You should never pump the pedal on a fuel injected car. This will give you false symptoms which will cause you to chase your tail. I would first suspect you have a MAF sensor issue especially if you have a k/n filter installed. The oil will contaminate the sensor wires, If this is the case remove the sensor and spray clean with brake cleaner.
White smoke is also a sign you overheated and possibly blew a headgasket. You may have a code indicating a misfire stored even tho the check engine light is off. Getting this diagnosed correctly would be in your best interest since all we can do is guess and about all you can do is the cleaning I suggested. Also look at the oil on the dipstick and valve cover cap. If its milky this is a sign you may of blew a head gasket. Also the spark plugs should be replaced if they have more than 60,000 miles on them. Also if you have more than 60,000 miles, your suppose to replace the timing chain which becomes stretched and will cause starting issues and could break and destroy your engine.
