You may have done serious damage to the engine. If the water level is fine and you didn't blow your head offs when you penned the radiator cap like it tells toy not to when hot, it's the water circulation pump failing.

Water pump needs to be replaced. Don't keep driving it like that. It's bad bad bad for your engine. Unfortunately a water pump isn't typically easy to replace, seek professional help.

I have to keep topping the engine with water, but I have no leaks.

ohh ohh is there a foamy substance on the bottom of your rad cap and is your vehicle blowing white out the tail pipe, all these things mean your head gasket is gone and it is a major repair

My 98 chevy malibu is running a little hot. the heads are not cracked.changed the anti freeze.change the thermostate. what could be the problem

If your engine is running fine with no miss in it possibilities could be radiator fan or water pump if the radiator fan is working fine it could be the water pump. I have seen a water pump after removing it where the fins on the pump were completely worn out causing the overheating.Let me know how this turns out for you thanks.

Overheating. Cools when stopped, runs hot when driving. Already replaced the radiator, water pump, thermostat, reservoir, heater core. The fans kick on like they should. My next guess is the catalytic...

It can be a clogged converter. It can also be a blown head gasket if you are experiencing any of these symptoms. White smoke from the exhaust, overfull oil level, a white foamy substance on the underside of the oil fill cap, loss of coolant with no apparent leak, or air bubbles escaping from the radiator with the cap off engine running.

Engine running hot

If you have check all the fluids and the water pump for operations, make sure your electronic fan is working then look in your radiator for a oily substance unfortunately that year and the 1998 had a head gasket problem which can result in a total engine rebuild if continued driving.

My 1999 saturn sl keeps overheating and is leaking out the coolant

Is the reservoir boiling over or is it just leaking? If it is just leaking you need to repair it with silicone sealer or a special PVC repair kit. If it is boing over you need to find out why. Is the fan running? Turn the A/C on and the fan should run continuously. If not then check the fuse. If the fuse is good check the fan itself by applying 12 volts directly to the fan motor. If the fan is good then replace the thermal relay. Now, if the fan is running as it should then your thermostat may be stuck closed, the radiator may be clogged internally or externally. Clean the radiator of all bugs and debris on the coils. Remove the radiator cap and start the engine with the radiator full. You will see the coolant start to move when the thermostat opens. if you do not, then the water pump may be defective but not likely unless it is leaking or making noise. It is probably a stuck thermostat. Drain the system with the heater set to hot. Flush the system with plenty of water from a garden hose. Replace the thermostat, and fill the system with a 50/50 mix of Antifreeze & Distilled water or buy it premixed. 1 Gallon antifreeze with 1 gallon distilled water will do unless you buy premix and it will take 2 gallons. Don not use tap water! Leave the cap off and start the engine and keep adding coolant until you see no more air escaping and you can add no more. If the system has bleeder valves use them to remove any trapped air. This should solve your overheating problem unless the worst case scenario has happened. A blown head gasket. If you see white smoke from the exhaust, a white foamy substance on the underside of the oil fill cap of dipstick, oil level is overfull, or miss on one or more cylinders, you may have a blown head gasket.
