Question about 1999 Dodge Caravan

Car died slowly and can't started any more remove fuel pump tested is ok i dn't know if pressure is enough put new filter but no luck

To make sure get a can of starting fluid and have some one help you. first open the air filter box then have someone spray starter fluid into the side that goes to the motor while you are trying to start the engine. if it fires then the problem is fuel delivery. if not then you are not getting spark and may be ingnition module that is bad. also there has been problems with computers on these models you may need to get a scanner run on this one to see if that is why it is not starting. if this helps please reply and good luck

2001 Nissan start jerking on hway, died, putt putted home. Now starts dies out and backfires.


Make sure timing belt ( if equipped has not jumped/skipped teeth ). If ok suspect system running too lean ( not enough fuel ). You need to check for proper fuel pressure. Possible restricted fuel filter or defective fuel pump. Also there are a few sensors the vehicle relies on for fuel delivery that may have to be tested as well.

Replaced fuel filter on 2004 cavalier car will start but won't stay running. Died one day and acted like it wasn't getting enough gas so replaced fuel filter.


if its starting your getting power to pump but is pump delivering enough fuel also did you install new filter in correct flow direction would start with fuel pressure test also if you have access to a scan tool plug into the cars computer and see if any codes are present

I have a 1991 buick skylark,3.3 l. It started dying when hitting the gas at the bottom of a hill. Slowly started dying here and there. Then it would only idle until I touched the gas and it would die....


How do you know the fuel pump is good ? Did you do a fuel pump pressure test with a test gauge ? Did you test the fuel pump electric circuit ? Is the check engine light on ? There is a fuel pump relay under the hood engine compartment . The right front behind the headlamp are four relays , the one to the left is the fuel pump relay .I'll send a link to a video on testing the circuit !There also is a fuse in the wiring near those relays , it's power for the fuel pump relay ! Or you have a bad fuel pressure regulator ! A plugged catalytic converter could do this , need to pull the O2 sensor an do a back pressure Test ! 1998 Dodge Caravan. engine dies and wont start. fuel pump was changed twice but i get a few miles & dies again & wont start. im thinkin fuel filter is plugged....


It might be your fuel filter. Also, Dodge and Chrysler is bad for fuel pump failures. A clogged fuel filter can cause this. Also, you might not be getting enough fuel pressure. There should be a test port on the van, where you can test the gas pressure. You also have a fuel pump relay or switch. This could be bad as well. Hope this helps you.

When you start the truck it cranks over and runs normal for about 10 seconds before it slowly starts to die out. the other thing is when you start it just like the the first problem i said above it when...


It sounds like a weak fuel pump. You would need to have a pressure gauge to hook up to the exit end of the fuel pump to test the pressure. A call to a tech at a local dealer could give you what the proper pressure should be. I'm thinking it should be 35-40 lbs. If the pump is weak it may have enough gas to get started, but as it runs, the pressure bleeds off, so it doesn't send enough fuel to the engine causing it to die. If you push the accelerator, basically the same thing happens, it tries to jump up the pressure and can't keep up. If you don't have the proper tools or gauge to do this, it should be examined by a mechanic.

How do I tell if my problem is the fuel pump or fuel pump regulator? I don't hear the fuel pump when I turn on the ignition


Remove the fuel line from the fuel filter inlet side, it should be marked with an arrow, but either hose will give you the same result. NOTE: Be careful though as the fuel is under pressure so remove the hose slowly and try to relieve the pressure before you pull the hose right off.Make sure is not HOT.

Then put the hose you have taken off into a bottle and turn the key to the on position first, if you see fuel coming out then the pump is ok. If no fuel then turn the key to the starting position and crank the engine over for a couple of seconds. If no fuel your fuel pump is faulty. The fuel pressure regulator should only be tested with a fuel pressure gauge. But see how you get on with the fuel pump first. Good luck, let me know how you get on.

You can guess all day, best to do a fuel pressure test then you will know. Its simple and cheap to do, you can rent the guage at auto zone, and they also can tell you what the pressure should be.

Hello;
It sounds from your description that the fuel pump is weak. To check the fuel pressure you need a fuel pressure test gauge for fuel injection. Attach the gauge to the test port schrader valve and turn the ignition to the on position. Record the reading. Now start the engine and record that reading. Unplug the pressure regulator vacuum line and record the reading.
The pump should have pressure with in specs but if low, start with the installation of a new complete pump. It is located in the fuel tank. Also replace your fuel filter.

Will start then dies


On the regals they have a ceramic resistor on the passanger side under the fender. It heats up and over time it tends to brake and the wire inside tends to rust away. The fuel pumps run in 2 different speeds. Had the same problem. Dealer only part yet the car would run and you would think it was the fuel pump. Turn the key it kicks on then start and dies out. Ceramic on the pass side would need replaced. It is white about 2-3 inches long or so held on with 2 bolts i do believe. Ill find a bulliten i found online to help me diagnos the problem. :) hopefully this helps someone out instead of spendin $$$ that ya cant afford with the recession eh?
