P0171 and P0174 Means engine is running lean-Possible a dirty mass air flow sensor (can be cleaned with brake clean) failing fuel pump, vacuum leak...

P0420 means your catalytic convertor is failing-time to see your exhaust shop

dont ever spray BRAKE CLEAN on a mass air flow sensor! there is a spray called"MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR CLEANER" weard huh :).
first of all it has to be both banks to be a mass afs... you need to check your Air Inject Check Valve on that bank. (its the tube going into your exhaust manifold

Po171 po174 code

Lean bank 1 and bank 2 , and throttle actuator system fault. Check reason for lean codes 1st, vacuum leak(s), air inlet boot and hoses, or low fuel pressure / clogged filter. Repair as needed then clear codes and recheck .

Im trying to get my mother in laws 2006 chevy equinox to pass emissions the codes po171 and po420 keep coming up po171 is lean bank one and po420 is catalyst below efficency im trying to narrow it down to...

For the lean condition I wound look for vacuum leaks.I you don`t find any then replace the o2 sensor for bank 1.As for the po420 if the exhaust system is not bent or damaged you will have to replace the catalytic converter. The catalytic converter has a longer warranty then the regular vehicle warranty itself so call the dealership and find out if the converter is still under warranty. The usual warranty I believe is around 80k.mileage years is 7 or 8 not positive.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Check for vacuum leaks, especially the intake manifold gaskets. If those are o.k., clean the Mass air flow sensor.
