I had this problem on my 97 and I had to stick my hands through the grill and pull the latch manually. YOu can try taking pliers and pulling on the cable from inside the truck too. Thats what I did on mine after I noticed the cable dangling there.

open hood(bonnet) and remove the latch (screws)

the adjust it . per FSM book.
if you cant open it , that is a problem. so, if the latch is cable driven
most cars we can pull side of cable (look all places for it)
do this
person one tries to lift hood
person 2 tries to pull cable.
person 3 pulls cab handle, POP!
ok its not cable driven its electric
hot wire the solenoid. find the wire to it and hot wire it.

Our battery is dead on our 2004 Toyota Sienna, now our key wont manually open the doors

You will have to open the hood to jump start or change battery. There are two ways to open the hood, both involve the hood latch/locking mechinism. First thing you must find a way to do, is to access the hood latch with your hands. You may have to get under the car, or maybe remove the grill to be able to get to it. Try to pull the hood release cable with your fingers or with some pliers. If this proves too hard to do, try to use a strong stick or rod and try to get the latch to release that way, moving the release the same way the cable pulls it. Another option is to access the screws that hold the latch on to the car, remove the bolts and lift hood, latch and all up. Then replace the latch/lock when you get your battery fixed. If you decide to lift hood, latch and all up by removing the bolts/screws, watch out and don't break your cable, just lift the hood enough to seperate the latch from the hood.

How to adjust hood cable for 1999 ford ranger?

The hood cable is not adjustable, you must have a defective cable or the latch is sticking under the hood.

Hood release cable is broken. how to get the hood open

you can either go from under front of vehicle, and use a few extentions to take hood latch off to open hood. or take grill off if possible to get hood open. from the inside of vehicle, if there is cable you can grab onto. just take a pair of vise grips and pull on cable. have a good day !!

How to open a broken hood latch on 2000 ford explorer

if it is broken from inside the cab, skin the cable housing until you get to the cable and grab it with pliers or vice grips and pull the release. If it is broken from the latch under the hood you are going to need to get to the latch and release it with something, anything that you can get in there and pull the release latch.

The hood latch on my 2000ford ranger won't release from in inside the cab. how do I get it open from the out side?

Inspect the cable where inside latch was, can you see the metal cable inside the black housing, if you do, take a vice grips and grab onto tightly and pull, this should release the mechanism same as if you pulled the latch, otherwise if you can't see the cable within, crawl under the front of the truck, between the radiator and grill, reach up to the latch and disconnect the cable that comes from the cab, it will be the only cable coming to the latch assembly, as you remove it, it kind of just clips in place, you will see what it pulls to release the latch, grab a screw driver and lightly force the piece over to pop the hood, i know it can be frustrating from experience, took me a while the first time, and they sure dont give you much room to work with, but a little patience will pay off with this , wish you the best of luck!

Thanks for using FixYa!!

I'm taking a guess that the inside latch your referring to is the latch inside the cab of the truck, if so inspect the cable, can you see the metal cable inside the black housing, if you do, take a vice grips and grab onto tightly and pull, this should release the mechanism same as if you pulled the latch, otherwise if you can't see the cable within, crawl under the front of the truck, between the radiator and grill, reach up to the latch and disconnect the cable that comes from the cab, it will be the only cable coming to the latch assembly, as you remove it, it kind of just clips in place, you will see what it pulls to release the latch, grab a screw driver and lightly force the piece over to pop the hood, i know it can be frustrating from experience, took me a while the first time, and they sure dont give you much room to work with, but a little patience will pay off with this , wish you the best of luck!

The hook on my latch assembly wont grab the loop on my hood.its stuck in the open possition. the cable doesnt return and the handle is loose. the truck is a 97 f-150 pick up.

the hood release cable is stuck inside the plastic sheath, you can try spraying with WD 40 repeatedly and let soak in between cable and sheath and using needle nose pliers gently try to slide cable back and forth but most likely the cable needs to be replaced.

Have you tried having someone thump on the hood will you pull the release cable? Try that then lube the latch up good with penetrating oil and operate several times to get fluid into the latch.
