I have fuel. At least I can smell it when I pull the spark plugs. I can hear the fuel pump.

I replaced the spark plugs, coil, engine control module or whatever the thing on the coil is and the crank sensor but it still doesn?t fire.

Do you have fuel? Have you Checked fuses? Is Fuel pump running when you turn on key?

In answer to your starting problem, my was the same but motor started knocking in the rockers for about an hour on the way home & so i turned it off. when i went to start it again, it wouldn't. found out my 2.2 lt ecotec 2005 cavalier motor had badly skipped on timing. oil pump went dead, seized up a cam & timing chain jumped 8 links out of place. i found out my problem when i took the valve cover off. it's easy to do & it will answer your question if it is your problem too. good luck with yours.

I'm helping trying to fix my girl's 2005 cav that an A/T and ecotec 2.2L i've confirmed it's getting spark and it seems to be getting fuel bc the spark plugs are starting to flood. tried start fueled no luck once spark plugs were changed(they needed to be changed anyways and there was carbon build up not excessive but had a good amount, i've seen much worse) checked the fuel line i checked the bleed and fuel spilled out. hum it looks like it's eating oil bc i added some last week and the dip stick now says half way up the stick. it's not smoking nor is leaking on the ground, the pistons looked like it's getting some carbon and/or oil build up bc i could see them it threw the spark plug holes. (didnt have time to rip off the head). added some seafoam into the oil last week and it started to run rough right after but with in a day it smoothed out like it should and then 4 days later it just wont start today. i wish i had an obdII reader so it could give me an idea if the system might know something ele. i dont know.

oh and checked the idk if i could hear the fuel pump since there is a busy street right behind me while working on the car.

  • Rudie Nov 15, 2016

yeah she didn't take her car in with in the 100 miles after putting seafoam in and to find out the timing chain broke so valves wont open any more. lol i made it clear she needs to get her oil changed with in the 100 miles after putting the seafoam in but she didn't listen and BAM sludge wins! lol

In this situation you have to determine what is the cause.... is it spark???? or is it fuel???
these are the very least of the basics any car man has to take in order to determine where he is going with this vehicle...first spray some ether into the air intake and see if she attempts to run...if yes its a fuel problem...low fuel...dirty fuel/filter clogged/fuel pump malfunction(in the Tank) or fuel pump relay defective(can you hear the pump with the key turned on??? If yes the pump and relay is Ok.

secondly pull a plug wire and ground a screw driver between the plug wire and the plug leaving an air gap about 1/4 in..... have someone crank it over.... is it snapping/sparking???? If so spark(ignition) should be ok problem is fuel.

SOURCE: 98 chevy cavalier 2.2....replaced

Sounds like bad battery cables and/or ignition switch. I would clean battery cables thoroughly with wire brush especially the bottom end since they're exposed to road grime, etc... Also check to make sure you put small wires on solenoid on correctly. I've seen people get them reversed because they're looking at them upside down when attaching from under car. More than likely it's those small wires on solenoid.

SOURCE: car will not turn over..battery seems in good

from your description it sounds like the starter pinion is stuck and its not throwing out which could be where its froze on ,but it could be the nylon arm then moves the pinion out into mesh with the ring gear has broke ,Best i can come up with is to ask a local mechanic to have a look as you may need a new starter motor as yes it may be something small wrong with it like a arm but try buying the spares on their own nowdays

I have a 2004 chevy cavalier and it won't start. Just keeps clicking and won't turn over. I need some help please. Thanks

use test light, connect clip on grnd. , touch tip on the starter wire while turning key , if it lights starter is faulty , no light, solenoid is faulty, if it lights and indicates starter is cause you can try to gently tap starter with plastic handle of screwdriver if tapping gets it moving then brushes in starter are dirty or near worn out hope this helps

2005 Altima won't start, hear clicking sound coming from fuse box,key stuck in ingintion, won;t turn over, tried to jump start.

the clicking that you hear is coming from the starter relay. sounds like your ignition starter switch or ignition lock cylinder is bad.

The 'theft system' light does not turn off with the key in the run position on my 1999 chevy cavalier. car won't start, it won't even crank over. the battery and the starter are brand

try locking your car with the key and unlocking it with the key, leave it for 30 second or so between the locking and unlocking , the car thinks some one has tampered with it

I have a 1998 Chevy Cavalier that I can not figure out why it won't start. The following list of parts are brand new: Battery, PCM, Park Neutral Safety Switch, Alternator, Ignition Switch, and finally...

Your car has a sealed transmission, in order to check it you have to go to the dealer or a transmission

shop, its not owner servicable. takes dextron vi, 4 speed 7.4 quarts, 3 speed 4quarts

And as far as the no start, are your plugs getting voltage, if not check your coil, if there is no spark

to your plugs the car will not fire up. good luck!

2005 cavalier problem with ignition lock cilinder turns but won't start

check they ground cable to the starter by putting a jumper cable wire from negative of battery to open metal on starter casing and turn key does it turn over? if not, its probably the starter solenoid. or the starter motor or both. the solenoid is attached to the starter its round with a few wires going to it.
