Is this carb?Or throttle body injected? If it is carb, then the fuel filter may be in backwards, the hole in the filter points outward toward the fuel line, you most likely crushed the filter.

Fuel Filter

Print
The recommended change interval for the fuel filter on all models is 60,000 miles under normal service. Severe service will require more frequent changing of the fuel filter.
The filter is located in the passengers side of the engine compartment.

CAUTION Before disconnecting any fuel lines, be sure to open the gas tank filler cap to relieve any pressure in the system and wrap a shop towel around the fuel line fitting before opening. Observe all fuel handling precautions.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

See Figures 1, 2 and 3

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Wrap a shop towel around the fittings and using a proper wrench, slowly loosen the fuel line fittings.
  3. Remove the 2 banjo bolts from the fuel lines.
  4. Remove the fuel filter clamp retaining bolt and the clamp.
  5. Remove the filter from the vehicle.

It is very important that ALL of the fuel line banjo bolt washers be replaced every time the banjo bolts are loosened. If the washers are not replaced the fuel lines will leak pressurized fuel causing the risk of fire or explosion.
  1. Install the new filter in position and tighten the clamp mounting bolt to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
  2. Attach the banjo fittings with new washers in place. On Legend and Vigor, tighten the fuel line flare connector to 28 ft. lbs. (38 Nm). On the remaining models, tighten the banjo fitting bolts to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm).
  3. Start the vehicle and check for leaks.

How tight does the bolt have to be after replacing the fuel filter on a 86 cutlass olds

I don't think there is a specific torque specification. Tighten firmly by hand and check for leaks. Overtightening will damage the threads and cause leaks.

How to put a fuel filter on a hond accord

The fuel filter is located on the left rear of the engine compartment under the brake booster area. The lines unscrew from the filter and the braket holding the filter has a bolt that can be loosened to get the filter out. The filter will not come out of the bracket until the lines are disconnected. They can be very hard to get to. The lines are usually very tight and sometimes corroded. I am an experienced technician and have a lot of trouble with Honda fuel filters...Good luck!

Fuel leak at front of engine at filter cap

these vehicles are notorious for leaking fuel at the valve on the back side of the fuel filter housing and when when the vehicle runs the fuel will cover the back side of the housing and run around the top kinda making it look as if the top is leaking. the filter kit for this vehicle comes with a new seal for the cap so if you replace the valve and replace the filter you should have no more leaks.

IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE VERY LOW FUEL PRESSURE, THE FIRST THING TO DO IS REPLACE THE FUEL FILTER, IT MAY BE CLOGGED, ALSO IF IT HAS BEEN SITTING FOR MORE THAN 6 MONTHS THE FUEL MAY HAVE GONE BAD, SO REPLACE THE FILTER AND TOP THE TANK OFF WITH FRESH FUEL, U WILL ALSO NEED TO RUN A ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROL TROUBLE CODE TEST GO TO THE PROVIDED LINK TO SEE HOW TO DO THAT, CODE DEFINITION'S ARE THERE AS WELL.

http://check-engine-light-codes.blogspot.com/2006/03/gm-1983-95-vehicles-obd1-codes-self.html

HERE ARE THE INSTRUCTIONS TO REPLACE THE FUEL FILTER.

The fuel filter is on the inside of the passenger side frame rail somewhere between the wheels. Here is the text of the service manual. See attached picture.
Please be careful when working with fuel.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire and personal injury when the fuel line is disconnected, cover the fuel line with a shop cloth to collect the fuel, and then place the cloth in an approved container.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

Raise vehicle.
Disconnect the fuel lines from the filter. NOTE: Use a back-up wrench to prevent filter, O-ring, or fuel line damage.
Remove the filter from the car.
INSTALL OR CONNECT

Install the new filter in position loosely.
Using new O-rings, install the fuel lines into the filter. NOTE: Use a back-up wrench to prevent filter, O-ring, or fuel line damage.
Torque line fittings to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
Secure the filter to the vehicle.
Lower the vehicle.
START the engine and inspect for leaks

How to replace a fuel filter for a Mitsubishi Mirage 2000

There is pressure...you have to remove the rear seat cushion, then remove the service cover and then detach the fuel pump harness connector.Start the car and allow it to run until the engine stalls.Turn the key to off position. Then disconnect the negative battery cable, attach the fuel pump connector, and install the access cover. Now place shop rags or towels around the fitting that is being disconnected. Loosen the filter feed pipe flare nut on the bottom of the filter.Seperate the flare nut from the filter. If equiped, remove and discard the gakets. remove the mounting bolts and remove the filter.if necessary remove the filter bracket. To install: install the filter to it's bracket only finger tight. Make sure the flow arrow is in the right direction. Make sure new O rings are installed prior to installation. Insert the filter feed pipe to the lower connection of the filter and manually screw in the main pipe's fare nut. While holding the fuel filter nut with a back-up wrench, tighten the banjo bolt to 22 ft pounds and tighten the flare nut to 25 with a back-up wrench on the nut. tighten the filter mounting bolts to 10 ft. pounds. Connect negative battery cable. turn key on to pressurize the fuel system and check for leaks. If repairs on the fuel system are needed remember to release the pressure before opening the fuel system. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Basic service

Here are detailed instructions on the location, removal, and re-installation of your fuel filter. Hope it helps and have a great day!

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
Carbureted Engines
These vehicles use two replaceable fuel filters. A small one is in the fuel line under the hood; a larger one is located at the rear, just inboard of the left rear wheel.
Whenever the filter(s) are replaced, take great care to avoid the entry of dirt into the lines. Also, pay attention to the correct installation position. It is possible to install the filter backwards.
FRONT
See Figure 2
  1. If applicable, disengage the filter or hose from its retaining clip.
  2. Using two fuel line clamps, pinch off both fuel lines. Take care not to crush the lines; just clamp them shut.
If the fuel hoses are hard or cracked, it is necessary to replace them.

  1. Loosen the fuel line clamps and slide them back.
  2. Using a twisting motion, remove the fuel lines from the filter.
  3. To install, use a new fuel filter and reverse the removal procedures. Start the engine and check for leaks. Correct any leaks immediately.
REAR
See Figures 3, 4, 5 and 6
  1. Raise and safely support the rear of the vehicle. Remove the left rear wheel.
  2. Remove the bolts securing the filter and its basket to the fuel tank.
0900c1528005f268.jpgFig. 3: Remove the bolts securing the filter and its basket to the fuel tank ...
  1. Push the fuel filter retaining tab and release it from the basket.

  1. Using two fuel line clamps, pinch off both fuel lines. Take care not to crush the lines; just clamp them shut.
0900c1528005f26a.jpgFig. 5: Clamp the fuel lines shut. If the lines are hard, cracked or brittle, they must be replacedIf the fuel hoses are hard or cracked, it is necessary to replace them.
  1. Loosen the fuel line clamps and slide them back.
  2. Using a twisting motion, pull the fuel lines from the fuel filter; remove the filter.
0900c1528005f26b.jpgFig. 6: After sliding the retaining clamps back, the filter can be removed from the linesTo install:
  1. Use a new filter and reverse the removal procedures.
  2. Make certain the retaining tabs are engaged when the filter is installed in the holder. Tighten the bolts until snug.
  3. Install the left rear wheel. Lower the car to the ground.
  4. Start the engine and check for leaks. Correct any leaks immediately.
Fuel Injected Engines
See Figures 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12
The canister fuel filter is located in the engine compartment. When buying the new filter, also buy new washers for the banjo bolts and the service bolt. Failure to replace these washers invites high-pressure fuel leaks. Replacing the washers is required, not recommended.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  2. The fuel system is under pressure. Release pressure slowly and contain spillage. Observe "no smoking/no open flame" precautions. Have a Class B-C (dry powder) fire extinguisher within arm's reach at all times.
  3. Disconnect the banjo bolts and/or threaded fuel line fitting from the fuel filter. Use of a flare nut or line wrench is recommended for disconnecting and attaching this fitting.

  1. Loosen the fuel filter clamp bolt, then remove the filter.
To install:
  1. Install the new filter and secure the clamp bolt.
  2. The upper and lower washers on each banjo bolt and the washer on the service bolt MUST be replaced whenever the bolts are loosened. Install the washers and banjo bolts. Tighten the banjo bolts to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm) on all models except 1992-95 Preludes. On these models, tighten the bolt to 20 ft. lbs. (28 Nm). If applicable, tighten the threaded fuel line fitting to 27 ft. lbs. (37 Nm).

  1. Tighten the service bolt to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
  2. Start the engine and check for leaks. The engine may crank longer than normal until full fuel pressure is developed. Correct any leaks immediately.
