In some cars if you look under the ignition switch there is a hole take a small thin screw driver and push up to pop it out. if that's not there you have to pull the steering column off to get it off

Can you fix a ignition that has locked in a 2005 Honda Civic 2 door coupe for cheaper than 500 hundred dollars?

Hello Renee,

The ignition switch for the civic is expensive. Auto Zone shows a new replacement ignition switch for a 2005 Honda Civic DX 1.7L MFI SOHC 4cyl listed at 455.99. This part also fits 21 other 1.7L MFI SOHC 4cyl Civic Models.

If you can find a low mileage Civic at the wreaking yard with the same switch as your model, that would save you money, but of course if one key is currently used for the door and ignition switch... you would have two keys after swapping out the switch. The old one for the door lock and the new (used) one for the ignition.

Civic brake lights

Yes,try pulling up the brake pedal with your hand, see if the brake lights go off,if they do,or they do not,the problem will be with the brake light switch on the brake pedal under the dash.

95 honda civic 4dr windows not working, moon roof not working, wipers not working. All fuses ok, under hood open faced fuses also look good

The fuses "LOOK" good, but are they getting POWER? Check ALL of the fuses, even inside fuse panel. Possible ignition switch bad???

I think i need to replace the ignition coil in my 1995 honda civic, only problem is i dont know how to

This is for PGM-IG ignition coil type, there is also electronic ignition igniter on the distributor type.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the distributor cap retaining screws and remove the distributor cap and seal. Slide off the leak cover.
  3. Remove the two screws that retain the BLK/YEL and WHT/BLU wires from the terminals in the distributor.
  4. Remove the screws that retain the coil and remove the coil from the distributor body. To install:
  5. Install the coil in position and tighten the screws securely.
  6. Reconnect the two leads and install the leak cover.
  7. Install the distributor cap and seal.

To clarify the problem with the 1998 honda civic there are no trouble codes. I just change the exh manifold and catyltic converter it is running and has cut out on me twice since then. This clarification...

is your engine cutting out while driving?? When it happens again notice if 1.Your speedometer goes to zero while in motion?? 2. If Some warning indicators lights aren't lit?? If yes, it's the ignition switch. Ignition switches on Hondas made from 97-02 encounter ignition switch failure. A recall was implimented in 2002. Ignition switch internal contacts severely arch or short causing intermitted power loss to vital engine electrical components. In this case causing the motor to intermittedly shut off while cruising. Call your local Honda dealer with your VIN# at hand for info on this. Possiblly they will replace this, if not they range from $45-$95....Hopefuly this tip helps

Honda civic 1994

Try holding the key between II and III in the ignition immediately after you start it. My 95 Del Sol VTEC is at the dealership now for the same issue, it is an ignition switch problem.
