Question about 1999 Kia Sportage

1 Answer

I purchased a 2001 Kia sportage ex, automatic transmission, about 2 1/2 months ago, and after I started driving it home, realized that it wont shift gears. AT ALL. The only way my dad got it to shift from first to second was by pressing the overdrive button on the side of the gearshift.. Then he could get it to shift into overdrive by holding down said button once he got the car up to about 50-55 mph.. Now nothing gets it to shift.. Has anyone encountered this problem, or just have suggestions? Please let me know asap! You can email me at b_blank2001@yahoo.com

This is hard for me, because I would like to give you a lesson on vehicle purchasing.
You somehow bought a vehicle with a bad trans.
That could have been prevented
Having own a trans shop ,I have nothing positive to share with you. Sorry.
You will need professional help and unless it is a simple electrical issue, your going for a complete rebuild.
I did alot of foreign trans work. They just don't hold up like a Chevy or Dodge or some Fords.

Testimonial: "Thanks for your opinion.. That's what we figured, but it was an auction sale, so we didn't get to drive it before we sunk money into it. I really appreciate your time though!"

I have a 2001 kia sportage 4x4 and had to recently change the transmission. It is curently at the mechanic and the transmissions he has got(2 at this point) he said won't shift and will only do 20mph.

Is a 2001 really worth the cost of a new transmission? It could be the computer not recognizing the new transmission. Is your mechanic familar with Kia/Hyundai?

SOUND LIKE YOU HAVE FAULT IN THE TCM OR PCM.THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT SOLENOID FAULTY. YOU NEED A GARAGE OR TRANSMISSION SHOP TO USE DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT TO LOOK FOR TRANSMISSION FAULT CODE SINCE TRANSMISSION IS TCM AND PCM CONTROLLED.

HOLD keeps coming on in my 99 kia sportage what does that mean

Look on the shifter lever, just bellow the push button. There is another push button there. That's the one you press or depress to keep the transmission on 3rd. gear. Just press it again and the hold light should come off.
