It doesnt have a fan sensor per say. It uses a coolant temp sensor which is located in the lower intake manifold which relays temp to computer which controls relay circuit to fans.

2001 Chevy Malibu is getting hot before the fans come on.Had blown head gasket.Replaced that and the fan motor.Of course when the a/c is on the fans come on.Turn it off, they stay on but otherwise the car...

on my 2000 malibu 3.1, the fans come on at about 220 and go off at 210. tempurature should read about a line past the half mark. if hotter then this, check coolant level to be sure its ok. and there are no leaks in system. good-day! you might want to check the coolant temperature sensor. Also, there is a relay for the fan in the fuse box. engine is not considered over heating unless it gets to the red line portion of guage about 250 degrees. the fans work for a/c so it must be the coolant sensor thats not turning fans on when it gets hot.

Coolant fans won't come on. Changed coolant sensor and checked all relays and fuses all are good. Think that the pcm is not giving the command for the fans to come on how do I fix.

scan car to see witch problem code it is, any auto parts store will scan for free. check for 12 volts at coolant fans connection. if your getting voltage then the fans may be bad.

The light that came on was under the temperature - it was a red box with water and a down arrow- what does this light mean?I have a 2000 chevy malibu

this light is for level of coolant in radiator if coolant is not low it may be a bad or dirty sensor in radiator.

99 chev malibu, cooling fans dont come on

make sure it is full of coolant, next check for a bad fan relay, to see if fans are ok! run a wire from positve post on battery to positive on fan motor, ground other side if need be. if fans do not work they are bad, if they do work, check relay to fan and coolant tempurature sensor if needed.

1999 chevy malibu overheating have a leak but can't find where it is coming from, and fans don't come on to cool down

If you are loosing coolant, you need to find out where. If nothing is coming out externally, then it has to be going inside. If you have a cracked cylinder head or blown head gasket, you can diagnose this by having a hydrocarbon test done at radiator. If you do, that can explain the fan problem as exhaust can drive coolant down below the sensor fan.
You also need to check the fan relay and fan itself (fan quick check is to hot wire it to battery...if it runs, it's OK) Most manuals run through the test procedures you need...get one and do some testing.

Inoperable endine cooling fans

The fans on your car should come on at 232 degrees, and when the A/C is on for a few minutes. You can swap the fan relay with another from your fuse box that is the same for testing. The most common problem is the ECT (engine coolant temprature) sensor. It is under the throttle body where the upper radiator hose goes into the intake. It is a 2 wire sensor that will be brass and black plastic. That car has another sensor for the gauge. Good Luck

Cooling fans on 2001 chevy malibu will not come on unless ac on

the relays control circuit is grounded by ECM (computer) . to check this make sure the is hot enough for the fans to be commanded on by computer and check to see if you have voltage at relay and it has ground from computer . you may need ECM.
good luck
