I had the car checked out by a mechanic and he said there is nothing external on the transmission as far as any valves to check they must be all internal. I was told that most likely need a new transmission!! Should I take car to someone who specializes in transmissions to have them check it out or just make arrangements to get new tranny

Not positive. But i think it is modulation valve. Or transaxle valve or selenoid? Maybee a vacuum leak comming from transmission to intake? Check em all out. Will it shift manually ok?

Sorry I just got a chance to read your reply, No I wouldnt say you would need a new transmission. Try changing the fluid and filter in it first. And if that dont work then go to a transmission expert. Im pretty sure that it is the selinoind tho. Drive at 50 mph on a flat road and let off of the gas. Does it feel like it is jumping. A small vibration. Kind of like it is kicking in and out.

Bad or faulty transmission solenoid. Have it checked at your local transmission shop. If the check engine light is on then have the codes read before taking it to the shop.

I had a similar problem with mu 2000 Contour. It turned out to be a clogged transmission fluid cooler (it's built into the radiator.) When the transmission got hot, the fluid would overheat and not flow properly, causing shifting problems and etc. Check the hoses to the cooler, and if they look okay, pull them off (make sure you note which one goes to which connection!) and try to blow through the cooler. If there's any restriction, it's done for. In my case, I replaced the entire radiator, but if it turns out to be this problem on your car, you might try finding an external cooler to replace the stock one with.
Good luck!

Rear end slipping?

Differentials are direct-drive devices -- they cannot slip.

This really sounds like erratic shifting taking place right at the shift point. Gentle acceleration is the trickiest shift for an automatic. When accelerating harder, the transmission shifts more abruptly, which is a much easier shift to complete.
