Question about Chrysler Sebring

1 Answer

I have a 1997 Sebring Convertible. Everything has worked fine until recently. The motor works fine, but the top will not completely retract on the passenger side at rear, while the drivers side is completely down. The top is roughly 12 inches short of being "down" on the other side.

You will need to follow the steps below to readjust your top but not something I recommend without practice. I've seen a lot of damage caused by inexperienced techs...

NOTE: When adjusting cam setting, top frame cam changes forward or rearward position of top header in relation to the windshield header. The cam turns inside the rear side rail and thrust link. It may be necessary to lengthen the balance links one or 2 serrations after a cam adjustment. The position of the cam high side determines angle between center and side rails. When the high side is fully forward, the angle is at a minimum, and when turned rearward, the angle is increased. An increased angle increases the forward movement of the top. The cam high side is indicated by an arrow on the cam threaded end.

Lower top to half down position to remove all strain from cam.
Loosen set screw and tap cam threaded end with a soft faced hammer to loosen any paint bond between cam and linkage.
Using appropriate Torx bit, rotate cam as necessary and secure set screw.

Chrysler Sebring 2008 convertible top malfunction message

As long as the trunk is open, It won't work. The top has it's own computer. Have the codes read. Takes a scanner. These have like 20 sensors and switches for the top and trunk. You can try to close the latch on the trunk with a screwdriver to get it to work. Another thing is there is a cover that pulls out . This has to be pulled out and latched in place. This will keep it from working also.

Electric convertible top does not completely retract on 1997 328i

check hydraulic fluid level in the hydralic motor pump behind left side trim panel in the trunk.look on side or end of the motor pump assembly.look for screw type check plug. first place rags under the check plug to catch fluid spill unscrew the check plug fluid level should be 1/4 inch bottom of check plug hole if low you need add correct level fluid. then screw in check plug back in place.to bleed air out hydralic system you need helper to hold switch while you raise and lower the top slowly by hand raise and lower top several times to remove air out hydralic system. see if your convertible top will open and close all the way.

2010 sebring convertible top won't go down

when you are looking at the motor to your top, on the right side were the wires are coming out of the end. you need to tack that off, you only need that little piece on the inside of that cap is where the problem lies. cheap workmanship there are to fuses and two wires that create a path for current to bring power from your relay (basically it is built very weak, and with age and wear the already cheap weak wired motor wires come loose)there are two wires can anybody guess what for? that's right up and down....so if you have tried everything and can't seem to understand why it still doesn't work I asure you this is the problem

What would cause the convertable top malfunction?

ALL CONVERTABLE TOPS HAVE SEVERAL PIVOT POINTS THAT MUST OPERATE SMOOTHLY TO RETRACT AND CONTRACT TO THE CAR! ALSO A MOTOR HAS TO OPERATE ALL THIS OPERATION! IF ANY OF THOSE PIVOT POINTS ARE BENT, RUSTED, OR NOT WORKING PROPERLY, IT WILL CAUSE A MALFUNCTION!

My 2004 chrysler sebring electical is not working.

Check around the MAP sensor area for any connections that may have been disturbed while you were replacing the sensor. Most or all of those functions are controlled by the body control module. I would think that a fault like that would show on the scanner readouts.
