The problem is, even if the aircon is turned off, the problem still persists.

  • dinggandy May 05, 2010

Thanks for the idea, i was worried at first that the aircon tech altered some computer set up,so i brought my car to the dealer and have it read, but it came out normal..the computer cant detect any changes at all..and i noticed, that it got even slower after an hour of travel...

My toyota innova manual transmission engine lacks power accelerating and its really hard to get 120km

Another cause of power loss in diesel engines is clogged fuel filter. Some vehicles have additional fuel filter INSIDE the fuel tank. I had my tank taken down and the inside filter cleaned and it fixed the problem. Some petrol stations and repair shops provide this service. If replacing the fuel filter in the engine compartment doesn't fix the problem, try this one. How to reset a indicator light in toyota innova 2005 model?

Indicator light about what? Check Engine light? If the Check Engine Light illuminates constantly during driving with no noticeable driving or performance problems, there is a permanent fault in the emission control system. When this happens, the computer that controls the emission system usually has a backup program that runs while the fault is present. (These backup programs are often referred to as "limp home" mode programs.) You should get the vehicle serviced as soon as possible, but in most cases, the vehicle will continue to operate, though you run a risk of it dying or not starting.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

While driving when aircon is off I can notice that the power is good when I switch on the aircon it reduces the power and it runs slow as if the car is heavily loaded.

the air conditioning compressor could be failing and dragging the engine down. Or the compressor could have already failed (locked) and the compressor clutch is trying to engage a locked shaft and is dragging badly. You need to have your a/c checked out before you burn out the clutch or cause further damage to the compressor.

My stabalink trac light came on and the engine light came on saying it was reducing power, it felt sluggish and went about 30 mph.

{: ) The stabiltrak light is just an after effect of the check engine light. When the system detects inconsistencies with the accelerator pedal position and throttle position sensors, it will enter into "Limp Mode", engine power will be reduced and you cannot accelerate normallly as you expected. So that you can LIMP your way back home, or to a nearest service shop. A P2138 code may be set, or its conjunctions. Before you decide to have it serviced, if you have the time, try to disconnect the connector at the accelerator pedal. Check for any backed out terminals. Then reconnect again firmly. When you hear it clicks in, it's firmly seated. Testdrive. If not okay, you do the same thing to the throttle position connector. It's on the side of the throttle body. I hope you get lucky.

Service Stabilitrak-Reduced Engine Power

the engine light is a generic fault indicator in your car to point out something is not quite right with the engine, having a loss of power as well is also known in some areas as Limp Mode or Safety Mode. it means the car is restricting the power it gives to ensure no damage it done to the engine.

the only certain way to find out what is wrong is to take it to a garage that has diagnostics equipment that can read the fault codes from the vechicles ECU (the fault codes will be the reason the light on the dash has come on as its reporting a fault somewhere)..

your mechanic should be able to tell you what is wrong with the engine from that and give you a more accurate cost at fixing it.

Check Engine Light & Dashboard Reads Reduced Engine Power

The reduced engine power happens because there is a problem with the electronic throttle control . Some people call it drive by wire ! The gas pedal has sensors inside , position sensors , connected electrical to the PCM - engine computer , the throttle body on the engine has a DC electric motor an also has position sensors . These are also connected to the PCM electrical . The PCM reads the position sensors which indicate how much your pressing on the gas pedal . then hopefully it opens the throttle the same amout .

The throttle actuator control (TAC) system delivers improved throttle response and greater reliability and eliminates the need for mechanical cable. The TAC system performs the following functions:
• Accelerator pedal position sensing
• Throttle positioning to meet driver and engine demands
• Throttle position sensing
• Internal diagnostics
• Cruise control functions
• Manage TAC electrical power consumption
The TAC system includes the following components:
• The accelerator pedal position (APP) sensors
• The throttle body assembly
• The engine control module (ECM)

Reduced Engine Power Mode
When the ECM detects a condition with the TAC system, the ECM may enter a reduced engine power mode. Reduced engine power may cause one or more of the following conditions:
• Acceleration limiting--The ECM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control, however, the vehicle acceleration is limited.
• Limited throttle mode--The ECM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control, however, the maximum throttle opening is limited.
• Throttle default mode--The ECM will turn OFF the throttle actuator motor and the throttle will return to the spring loaded default position.
• Forced idle mode--The ECM will perform the following actions:
- Limit engine speed to idle by positioning the throttle position, or by controlling the fuel and spark if the throttle is turned OFF
- Ignore the accelerator pedal input
• Engine shutdown mode--The ECM will disable fuel and de-energize the throttle actuator.

Tons of videos on youtube for these systems , there can be a variety problems , from wiring , worn out sensors , the DC motor , computer etc....

DISPLAY READS ENGINE POWER REDUCED

Display reads "Engine Power Reduced" and sometimes won't accelerate beyond idle. Other times it accelerates normally. We have not yet noticed a pattern.
