Question about 1993 Chevrolet K1500

1 Answer

I have a 1993 Chevy K1500. Problem with Fuel delivery, as it would start up for perhaps a 1/2 second, then die out. After a few more cranks it would run great. Then I'm on the interstate and it dies altogether. Same thing...I crank every 2 minutes for 15 minutes total and it runs again. Now it's parked in my driveway and won't catch on crank at all. I've replaced fuel filter, but no luck. Problem is I can hear a click when I listen for the fuel pump, but can't distinctly hear it. I have the gas line disconnected from the filter now to see if the pump is running at all, and gas is flowing out of it. Not at a fast rate, but it runs. The problem was, it wasn't flowing last night when I changed out my fuel filter, although I couldn't tell you how long I let it sit there to see if it would start flowing eventually. I've check my fuel pump relay fuse and it's working well. Even changed it out just in case. What's my problem?

Sounds like the strainer for the fuel pump is clogged or the fuel pump is weak and going out

Start with filter, if not that then the fuel delivery system, fuel pump (proper pressure or no pressure), throttle body or fuel rail injectors( faild, dirty or blocked.)

2000 chevy s10 blazer cranks but won't start????

Check for gas or spark problem on the engine. Check that starting fluid does start the car for a few seconds before dying, indicating a fuel delivery problem, like a fuel pump or circuit to it.

If the car won't start with starting fluid sprayed into the intake, then the ignition system may be at fault, or engine timing.

My 1993 Chevy K1500 will not turn over

"Trying to start" is turning over, also called cranking.

remove the fuel line from the carb, disable the ignition, point the fuel line into a can or jar, then turn the engine over.

If no fuel come out, you have a fuel delivery problem.

If fuel comes out, re-attach, look down the throat of the carburetor, operate the throttle, and see if any fuel squirts out.

If not, the float might be hung up.

If fuel squirts, fuel cannot get into the air stream from the float chamber. Time for a carb rebuild.

I have a 1991 motor home with a 454 engine, I have replaced the oil sending unit twice, the distributor cao and bug. The modual test good. It will start and run for about 20 seconds then dies. runs rough...

It looks like you answered my clarification request by posting a new question. Don't do that... keep it here. I inadvertently answered that question, thinking that someone had started a new thread with no information but "My vehicle has a caburetor."

This really sounds like a fuel delivery problem. It sounds like, while the pump is turning slowly during cranking fuel slowly seeps into the float chamber. Then the motor catches, and the fuel flow cannot meet the demand; the float chamber empties, and the truck dies.

I would take the fuel line off the carb, disable the ignition, point the line into a bucket (*like a coffee can), and crank the engine. You should get pretty good flow into the can. If the pump is electric a good steady flow, if operated by an eccentric on the camshaft timing gear (that is, the pump is bolted onto the side of the timing chain cover) fuel in healthy spurts.

My first suspicion is a really clogged fuel filter, and my second suspicion is a bad fuel pump. a hole in the fuel line, cracked hose, etc, can allow sucking air, which can seriously impair fuel flow.

Will crank but will not fire

get a spark tester,if there is spark then there is a fuel problem.put fuel spray into the throttle body and see if it starts and dies out.
then it is the fuel pump perhaps.
there are crank and cam sensors that could be a problem. or the ignition module .best thing is to scan it and see if any codes show to point out the defective system.
