Hi! You can access the flap manually thru the trunk compartment. You will need to remove the side trimmings where the flap is located. Once removed you'll see a cable with spring that holds the flap then push/pull it till it open. Once opened you can replace the cable. Hope this helps and have a good one!

well you could pull the lever to pull the gas tank while you have someone just gently push the back of the lid. if that don't open it then your cable to your gas tank is broken

My gas flap is stuck closed. We had to pry it open yesterday to fill the tank. 2 months ago the same thing happened, but it has worked since then.

If you have fuel door release cable & door is open, verify that cable moves in & out when you activate it. If yes you can adjust tab that it rests on so it will release properly. Just bend tab slightly inward at first, till it releases correctly.

I had the same problem with my 1999 Passat, whose power lock switch was also not working. It seems that when the mechanic fixed the power lock switch this also resolved the issue with the fuel flap.

Until I had this done, I had to do what goeffreyh above said, pull the upholstery in the trunk aside and pull back on the plastic tab to open the fuel door manually.

2004 Toyota Sienna power slide door won't open all the way

The suggested fix above did fix my problem. The problem is that a 2.5" hinged finger that pops up from the floor of the door opening to block the door. Apparently, the finger should, but doesnt go back down after the gas flap is closed. Even after I got hinged finger down (so that the sliding door would open/close all the way), it still would not go back down after the gas flap has been opened. i.e. I have to push the finger back down every time after we fill up with gas. It looks like there is a little wire/spring that should pull the finger back down, but it is off of the finger. I think that replacing this back on the finger should fix the problem permanently.
