Question about Volvo 240

1 Answer

We gave out of gas, and having terrible trouble restarting, after putting in more gas. The previous owner did absolutely no maintenance on the car. It also stalls for some reason when just riding along. Please help, we have no other transportation. Please recommend some sort of additive that will help clean the filter. THANKS

One you could have bad gas in tank try buying some water removal. 2 sounds like alot could be wrong with it make sure the oil isn't low as this will make it die out also.

Power to the radio but no sound coming out of the speakers previous owner said speakers work how do I find out

Ok, so you bought a used radio. Did you test it when previous owner gave it to you or you bought it through mail?
If you received with a not declared failure, you should it send back and claim your money.
Else, sorry, you should send it to repair

I am assuming you changed the oil on a regular basis. What type of gas did you put in it? Mine will not run on low octane fuel. Terrible running, an if you have been using wrong octane fuel it will cause damage to that engine. Manual is clear on this as well as dealer.

I'm a mechanic and it sounds like you need to take it somewhere, sounds like your fuel pump gave up, your neighbor had the right idea checking for fuel pressure. unless you want to take your gas tank out of your car so you can replace the pump, you're going to need a mechanic.

Looking at a 95 rodeo with 115000 mile what can i expect as far as maintenance/tune ups?

Really depends on whether the maintenance has been kept up on it with records and how hard the car has been driven. Hopefully its been taken care of. I'd say a minor tune up. Plugs, wires, oil change. Check and possibly change tranny fluid. It should be good, that engine will go 250,000 - 300,000 miles without much trouble if you take care of it. True story. Hope it helps!
