I think its a broken vacuum line

    evaporative emission(evap) system fails to hold sufficient vacuum check for broken or crack hoses under hood going from carb to box under left fender (passenger side) has a green cap in line 15 psi i believe

Find a place that clean remove as much as part in order as you can. oil pan drop it transmission pan drop it battery remove and keep thing clean as possible. starter intake everything fan power pump and radiator than you can remove hood and get a lift for engines and unbolt the trans than the motor mounts

Problems on a 1997 chevrolet cavalier

Not to be a **** but did you replace the cap with the wrong syle. Leaving the cap loose will trigger an Check Engine Light.

03 cavalier shows p0440 code startrs stumbs and dies

P0440 code translates to Evaporative Emmission System (EVAP). I suspect that your gas cap is not fitting tight enough on your tank to build up enough pressure to keep the EVAP sensor from detecting a fault. You may have to replace your gas cap or check to see if it was tight. It may take a few trips with the fault fixed to extinguish the light and more to get rid of the P0440 code in your computer. Removing the cable on your battery, the negative one for about two or three minutes may be enough to make your computer forget.

My engine check light is on, got it check the code is p0440, what does this mean, and how serious is this? its a 2000 chevy cavalier

p0440 is general evap failure it is commonly a vent solenoid that is located at the rear of the gas tank on the right side above the rear axle.

Codes P0440 and P0300

the evap can simply be the gaz cap the 300 check for a good spark you may need wire and plug be carefull for those coil they offent defect good luck pierre
