I dont believe the ratio is supplied by the vin but the ratio is written or stamped on the tag on the rear end, or front differential

the Manual transmission is going to have a rear axle assembly gear ratio of 4.30 , and the automatic transmission axle will be a 4.88 ratio.
The transmissions have different ratios between the 1.6ltr , 2.0 ltr , 2.5ltr and the 2.7ltr engines.

How to remove rotor on rear of 2005 dodge 3500? Do I need special equipment?

If you truck has a standard rear axle just remove the caliper and caliper adapter bracket, then the rotor will pull off. Sometimes if the hub face is rusted it may take a little persuasion to come off. You can hit it with a ball peen hammer between the wheel studs, this is usually enough to free it. If you have a dually you will need to remove the axle shafts first by removing the bolts around the outside of the axle housing then pull the shafts outward. Then remove the caliper and caliper adapter. Slide rotor and hub assembly off of axle, then unbolt the the hub from the rotor.

Decifering the "build" codes on Toyota Tacoma

I would call the dealer parts dept. they should be able to tell you what you need to know. there may be a difference in gear ratio for each engine/ trans combination. A salvage yard may be able to help you , they should have a computer system showing what rear is compatible. there should be a code on the axle housing itself.

How do I determine the rear axle ratio on any used Dodge Ram 2500/3500?

Normally there is a tag on a bolt of the rear cover that tells you the ration of the differential. You can also use the Vin number to find it also unlss the differential has been changed. Other wise you will have to jack it up and turn both wheels exually t the same time and count the rotation of the deive shaft to come up with a close value for the gear ratio. Good Luck, RAC
