Troubleshooting oil leaks on Nissan Altima

Your Altima uses a variety of different oils to lubricate various components. Normally, these oils won't leak. But when you do find a leak, you will almost always need to have extensive work done on your Altima to correct the problem. However, before you can replace anything, you need to know what kind of oil it is
Check for brown or black oil leaking on the ground or on the side of the engine. This is engine oil. It lubricates critical engine components. A leak means that an engine seal has failed and needs to be replaced

Check for red oil. Red oil is trans fluid. On your Altima, it most likely means that you have a rear main seal on the transmission that has failed. However, any seal on the transmission is possible. Transmission leaks need to be fixed immediately. A transmission can fail catastrophically in 20 minutes of driving if there is insufficient oil in the transmission

Check for amber or brown oil leaking from your trans. This is transmission gear oil found only on the manual version of the Nissan Altima.

Camry csi 2000 oil leak between engine and transmission

Lots of Camrys do this.

The oil will typically leak from the rear main bearing seal between engine and transmission, but that will appear at the bottom of the joint line, and will not reach the exhaust. This leak is expensive to fix and is usually left as is.

A leak from the cam cover gasket can drip into the exhaust.

The other typical leak is from the distributor shaft o-ring seal. This appears at the top of the join line between engine and trans, and can blow back onto the exhaust.

Possible transmission oil leak

absorb the frluid into a white paper towell ... if it is red in color then its transmission fluid .... if its clear or brown then its likely engine oil ... if the transmission is leaking a little then there are additives that can be put in the transmission to soften the seals .. that will often fix small seal leaks ...if the leak is slight and not damaging driveways then its not likely to cause major trouble as long as you keep your eye on the transmission fluid level .. ... if its engine oil then you could have a leaking valve cover gasket, oil pressure sending unit (sensor) ... or it could be jjust from spills as oil is changed or added .

Here is the way to find out pull your spark plug put out and bring each cylinder tdc and put 50 psi air in that cylinder remove radiator cap and check for bubbles do this to all cylinders,if no bubbles I would be checking to see if that engine has a oil cooler that could leak oil into your coolant, some mercededs had oil cooler,
