Wheel bearings are pretty easy to spot if they are done. All you need is listen to where it's humming as you accelerate faster (it gets louder). Now to remove them you either have to remove the wheel bearing assembly housing and press it with a traditional bench press or something like this which does not involve in removing the housing (on car removal). front wheel bearing - 22fb2c0.jpg
Both would cost money to purchase unless you are a shop though you wouldn't be asking this question. Using a hammer could work but give yourself a whole week trying to get it out or should I say good luck trying too. They are pressed in and the same follows to remove them. Unlike old style 2 pc bearings which come off easily by pulling them out together with the hub and also serviceable (re-greased). Sealed bearings are damaged once it is take off the hub and thrown away or used as paper weight. You may or may not require a wheel alignment depending how the tech did his homework regarding this area. If he is the kind that just rips off everything, not taking account where he could save time, then you'll probably need an alignment for sure. All in all if your worry is how to get it out, you have option of buying them installed in a new wheel bearing housing the a new hub pressed in as well and all you do is to remove the old housing and install the new one at a higher cost. Hey, so what if you can afford it, it would be easier to replace without the hassle of expensive tools. Make sure you follow tightening procedure for the center nut torque procedure or you'll end up breaking the bearing again. Never roll the car on it's wheels without a CV joint in the bearing, you'll crush the bearing and need a new one again.

You will destroy the bearing and hub if you hammer it out. its best to have it pressed out. After new bearings are installed take the vehicle for a wheel alignment.

Disconect bottom ball joint and tie rod end at the saddle . Then you will have lots of room to play with you will also need a 12 mm hex to remove the three nuts DO NOT USE ALAN KEY you will strip the nut.once the nuts are removed use a air chisel or if you don't have that just a regular 1in wide chisel with a small sledge hamer and hamer between brake dust plate and bearing assembly. MAKE SURE YOU REINSTALL SADDLE BACK ON LOWER BALL JOINT BEFORE YOU START HAMMERING. turnig the bearring every time you hit on one of the three points. It will eventually start seperating. Good luck

How to change a front wheel bearing on a 2007 toyota tacoma 2 wheel drive pickup truck

The bearing & hub is a whole assembly for this model, start by removing the brake calipers, the removing the rotors" a couple taps with the hammer should loosen it" , after removing the rotors the hub & bearing assembly is held on by 4 #17 bolts, after you get the hud and bearing assembly off you will need a tool called a bearing split plate ,to split the hub and bearing off each other. Now you should have the new bearing assembly ,inner wheel seal, and hub set together" this is when you need a press". Press the hub onto the new bearing assembly. And thats it! Its ready to go back on the way you took it off.

I need instructions on how to replace rear wheel bearings on my 1994 Honda Civic

Bearings are pressed into the hubs...much easier, faster and economical (if you don't have a press) to replace the complete bearing/hub assembly, no pressing is needed, since bearings are already pressed into the new hubs. Cost..aprox, 60 buxs each.
Here are the steps for the rear replacement...
Loosen the lug nuts on a rear wheel. 2) Chock the wheels and jack the rear of the car on the side with the lug nuts that you just loosened. 3) Remove the wheel by removing the lug nuts. 4) Pry open the dust cap covering the center of the axle/spindle. A small screwdriver tapped into the space between the hub and dust cap will work well for this. 5) With the dust cap now removed, use a thin center punch to straighten the little dent in the rim of the spindle nut so that you will be able to turn it freely in the next step. 6) Use a 32mm socket and a large breaker-bar to loosen the spindle nut. Unscrew the nut all the way and place it in a clean, safe area. 7) You should now be able to slide the hub/bearing assembly from the shaft. 8) Installation is the reverse of removal. Use plenty of high-temperature wheel bearing grease on all surfaces before you mount the replacement hub assembly.

IMPORTANT: Torque the spindle nut to 134 ft/lbs....(per manual specs)

When reinstalling the dust caps, tap them gently into place to avoid denting them...Install wheels, jack her down and pat yourself on the back...job complete.
Good luck..hope this will fixya up...please take time to leave me a fixya rateing...

Clicking noise coming from front right tire on a '01 Dodge Ram

as long as your sure its comeing from the front right tire proceed
to get to the bearing you have to take the wheel off first, rotate the rotor to see if you can hear the bearing.
remove wheel remove brakes/caliper/caliper bracket/rotor remove cotter pin/axle nut remove 4 bolts from wheel bearing assy unplug electrical connector for ABS, if has it tap axle end lightly to dislodge fron wheel bearing assy may need pry bar and hammer or air chisel to remove wheel bearing assy from vehicle clean orifice well and installation is the opposite to inspect the bearings take it out , and look for loose or stuck bearings, if it rolls freely chances are its not bad. . if water or dirt gets inside it can ruin the bearing. make sure you pack the bearing with grease. if the bearing is bad just buy a new one. i cant guarantee it is a bearing so good luck.
