1997 Jeep wrangler: The tires loosen up and fly.

1997 Jeep wrangler: The tires loosen up and fly. Was driving 40 mph around a curve and the left front tire flew off. Had the gear box replaced and it quit weaving all over the road but yet once again the tire loosened up and had to be retighten to continue on trip.

Make sure that your wheels sit flat against the hub flange and that the center hole fits the protrusion on the hub. Clean all rust and corrosion from both the hub and the wheel mating surface.
When tightening, use a star pattern, tightening one lug part way, semi-tight, then doing the one opposite it and so on, 'till you are back at the first one. Once all are semi tight, torque each to about 75 to 80 foot pounds in the same pattern. Normally you should not need to do this third step, but drive around normally for about an hour, then re check the lug tightness again with the torque wrench.
Never use a wheel that either does not fit exactly or one that has been damaged at the lug holes by running loose. Make sure all wheel studs are in good condition. Any damaged by a loose wheel must be replaced.
One rule for aftermarket wheels. You need to have at least the same amount of threads inside the lug nut as the diameter of the lug. (a 1/2" stud needs to have at least 1/2" of threaded area inside the nut...more is better)

2010 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sport extreme shudder at 40 mph- if I press the gas-pedal and get the RPMs to rev, the shudder ceases, only to return once I am back down around 38 mph-41mph.

which engine the 3.6? v6?

My front wheel staggers when at speeds 40 to 50 mph.But around the speeds of 60 mph it stops. I have tried new tires but no luck.This 97 jeep cheroke is a head-ache

Get the alignment done on your vehicle and make sure all the tires are properly balanced. Look for play in the sway bar and also have the wheel bearings checked out.

Shaking Stering Wheel in a 2006 Jeep

If it shake only when the brakes are applied, then it is a brake issue/ uneven wear on the pads & discs.
There are upper and lower control arms, but if they are bolted tight, it shouldn't be the issue. If you hear clicking, check out you CV joints.
Have you rotated you tires? Patterns can wear in and cause lots of shaking.

How do you shift to 4wd 99 wrangler

You can shift on the you are moving....into 4WD at speeds up to 40 MPH but simply grabing the 4WD selector and moving into the 4WD high gear. Low gear selection should be done at a stand still, with transmission in neutral position before proceeding in fwd. The low position is a "granny gear" that is for extreme situations where high 4WD will not suffice or get you out of a stuck situation.

If a 6cyl, from the front of engine, loosen the idler pulley with a 15mm wrench. It's on the left side of the engine. Then from the top, use a 15mm socket on a 6 inch extension, and tighten the adjustment bolt that is mounted diagonally just behind the idler pulley. takes alot of turns to tighten the belt. Then retighten the idler pulley bolt with wrench.

Was hit in the rear of my Jeep. Messed up back bumper & tire.

WOW! are you ok? May be sore tomorrow morning. 9 years old is against fixing it, as the value has dropped since new of course, but wranglers hold their value well. You are going to have to bring it to a body shop with a frame machine to check to see how tweaked the frame is. The tire being pushed forward can be fixed, although that's going to cost too. Hope you're ok, and yes, I think you can get it fixed , although it's going to be close. Was the moron that hit you on a cell phone? I almost got t-boned today by a guy on his cell blowing off a red light. Cop 100' down the street didn't see it! His lucky day! Let me know how you make out. Good luck Curt

Steering problem

Shocks are usually pretty much shot after 45-50K. Also check damper (sideways shock on steering linkage). Shake is either wheel balance or a worn steering component (should have been checked before alignment...shame on them if they didn't)

Oil gauge goes up and down.

If grounding the dash does not work, try putting a mechanical gauge on it and reading actual oil pressure. Pressure does change while driving, but should not wander. With mechanical gauge, check that running hot at idle (in gear if automatic) pressure should not drop lower than 15psi (I'd rather see 20) High reading should be around 40 -50 but no higher.Low pressure indicates a loss of supply or bad bearing on the crankshaft, high pressure may be caused by sticking pressure relief or restriction in an oil passage.
