Rear brakes are pretty easy. First If you cant get the drums off then you must go to the back side of the backing plate and back off the star shapped adjuster either with a staight blade screw ddriver or an adjuster tool. I strongly suggest doing only one side at a time so that you can look on the assembled side to see how things go back in place. when the drum is off you will see the that the shoes have a spring holding them onto the plate, push on the spring retainer with pliers and rotate the retainer so that the spring will come off. Once you have all that done then ot is a matter of disassemblying the other springs to get the shoes off. Assembly is the reverse of disassembly. When you put the shoes on make sure that the shoes are place on the wheel cylinder properly and use the new springs that come with the shoes. Put the drum back on rotate the drum and tighten the adjuster just enough to slowly stop the drum. After you are finished back the vehicle and brake a few times this will self adjust the shoes where they need to be.

Before you do all that I would be suspicious of the front brakes. Pull the front wheels and inspect the pads for wear and possible debris. Most likely this grinding is coming from the front brakes.

Lack of braking since new. Have tried best combo's of rotors, front disk brake pads & best rear drum shoes !

Bleed the breaks untill you get clean clear fluid out of each one. start with the right rear, left rear, right front, left front. DO NOT let the reservor get low while bleeding. You can suck air into the lines and have the same problem. You need to do this immediatly as your brakeing ability is uncertain and can be un reliable.

1994 gmc back left tire break leak

Most likely rellted to the rear wheel cylinder. You need to remove the tire, probably replace the brake shoes if they are wet with fluid, wipe down brake drum with carb or brake cleaner, install new wheel cylinder and put everything else back together. Wheel cylinder is available through most auto parts outlets. Probaby less than $15.
