Any one of the pulleys in the front of the engine can be the culprit. Try this but be very careful,, get a wooden dowel about 1/2 inch or 3/4 will do. 3 feet long, with the engine running, cup your hand at the end of the rod and put your ear in the cup, don't touch the dowel with your ear, Carefully put the other end of the stick on each and every part of the car's engine, water pump, alternator, pulleys, ac comp, power steering pump, air pump, idler pulley, motor itself. You will find the noisy one. Be careful not hit the fan, or anything else moving, hit the bolts instead. Hope this helps.

It could for a couple reasons. it could be a bad bearing in the pump, which will usually make a groan or grinding, or it could be leaking coolant onto the belt, causing the belt to squeek. these are a fairly common failure. good luck!

Much will cost replace power steering

the hard power steering is given away by the loud squeaky noise . It is the drive bely slipping from worn out or needs adjustment.. If the key problem is in the switch the replace the switch of if it is not engaging the starter motor have a look at the battery connections (shiny clean and tight) or the solenoid or starter relay.

A mechanic told me I need a water pump. But, when I drove the car, it did not overheat, nothing sprayed, and when I stopped, nothing was dripping. How can I tell if it really does need a water pump?

Before I had the brake inspection, everything was fine. But after the inspection, whenever I start to drive, at the very beginning it makes the squeaky noise for short time and after then it does not make...

Maybe they didnt put the anti squeek grease in there. I would take it to whoever did the inspection and tell them the problem and that it didnt do that before and they should fix it for no charge. Any reputable shop will do this so if they wont, find a new mechanic.

Water reserve problem

There are few reasons why the 'flow' between reservoir and engine doesn't operate properly. However, in relation to that if you hear a noise coming from the front of the engine I would suspect first the water pump. Have the pump check as soon as possible to avoid engine overheat and severe further potential damages to the engine if my diagnostic is right. In all the cases, if the engine overheats (check your temperature gauge or warning light) stop the engine right away and let it cool down before to continue your road. If by coincidence or bad timing it's really alternator that makes noises it's that the bearings are bad then the alternator has to be replaced.
Hope it will help

Brakes make squeaky noises along with other noises

There are a numer of reasons brakes will squeak or squeal. Sometimes excessive dust acculation wll cause it, yet another cause is the TYPE of material the brake shoes are made of. The harder the brake shoe material , the more tendency to squeak / squeal. My suggestion is use high quality brakes such as OE brakes. Hope this helps.

Strange Noise from front end of engine 97 intrepid 3.5L

Sounds like it could be the water pump, timing belt tenstioner/pulley. The water pump is driven off the back side of the timing belt and it may or may not leak if the bearing is bad. I have seen water pumps that are about to fall off not leak. If you look at the front of the oil pan just under the crank pulley and see even 1 drip of green coolant your water pump is shot. The stamped steel front cover comes off easy to inspect the timing belt and stuff. Your engine is a iron block engine and if the timing belt breaks you will damage your valves. The later alluminum block 3.5L is not an interferance engine.
