This is an easy job! turn the wheels straight!and apply e brake and put sumthing under thetires! then open the hood ! locate the steering shaft! its right under the master cylinder! there will be one nut and bolt there ! remove it! should be a fifteen mm!rite at the fire wall disconnect the shift linkage there will be a hair pin there remove it and push it out of the way. k now go inside of the car! look at the base of the old column! there will be 4 to 5 bolts at the base remove them! now un plug all the wires ect! move them to the side! now move to the middle of the column there will be another bracket ! u shaped theres one nut on each side remove them ! the column should drop down ! double check that every thing is disconected! now gently pull the column will come out!! reverse for istall ! goo luck

How to change the key inginition switch on a 94 chevy caprice

Hi, your ignition switch is mounted to the steering column just below the knee bolster by 2 5/16in bolts. First remove the 2 connectors from the switch, then the bolts. The actuating rod is slid into the side of the switch and extends up the column to the lever of the key barrel. Carefully pull the rod from the side of the switch. Slide the actuating rod into the new switch and bolt it on, then plug in the connectors. I have pasted a picture of the switch below. Please let me know if you have more questions.

How do you replace an ignition starter switch on a chevy s10 1985? i need a diagram or something.

it is on the top of the steering column in the truck cab.remove battery cables. remove the lower portion of you dash.loosen the bolts on the plate that holds your column up to the dash. the column will pull down some. you may have a gear indicator tab/string that needs to be undone. remove column clamp blots all the way. the switch is on the top, it has a rod that moves and is postioned on the column. remove old switch, install new switch in th position where the old on was

Need to know how to remove and replace my f 150 ingention it is a 1987 and what tools i will need

The ignition switch is usually mounted to the steering column and is operated by a linkage rod.
NOTE On column-mounted ignition switches, don't confuse the switch with the lock cylinder and keys. The ignition switch is not normally visible. On some vehicles, the steering column support has to be removed and the column lowered to find the ignition switch. On others, the switch is accessible under the dash.
The ignition switch is operated by the key switch. Courtesy of Ford Motor Company.
To replace the switch:
  • Remove the ignition switch wiring harness.
  • Unbolt it from its position.
  • Bolt the new switch into position.
  • Attach the witing harness.

My steering wheel just "free-wheels" I have lost all steering capibilities.

sounds like a bad "Rag Joint ', that;s a piece of tire carcass material (a two inch circle at the bottom of the steering collumn) where the steering wheel connects to the rack and pinion(It;s to kill vibration)
It's fairly easy to replace, also easy to get your steering wheel upside down

if the rag joint's good the steering rack and pinion assy must have a stripped gear.
This is rare, check the rag joint firstit's a small ***** to replace but not impossible usualy you have to unbolt the collumn inside the cab (Two bolts under the bottom of the dashboard, there's a cover to remove beneath the stering column)

Sorry, when mine went out last year it was IMPOSSIBLE (2 Dodge dealerships, 2 different auto parts chains, and 3 repair shops) to find a replacement.

Had to replace the entire steering column from a junkyard.

Good luck!
