2004 Santa Fe engine noise

Our 2004 Santa Fe with 130,000 miles drove just fine then when we got back in from shopping & started the engine up it started making a terrible noise immediately - against my better judgement we drove it home about 3 miles & I could not really hear any engine noise until we parked it in the driveway & it sounds worse while ideling - so we parked it & then after it sat for a week & we started it up then the engine sounded ok until ideling for about 10 minutes then started sounding terrible again. Sounds like 2 cogs trying to jump over top of each other. Wonder whats going on? this engine has been serviced regularly.

SOURCE: Santa fe studdering and won't accelerate right? RPM's jump and then steady with continuing studdering?

Engine performance problem causes are many. Try this first.
1. Disconnect the battery cables (both of them)
2. Touch/connect the postive and negative battery cables together for 30 seconds.
3. Reconnect the cables to the battery.
4. Drive vehicle to see if this solved the problem. Let me know what happens.

2004 hyundai santa fe parked it last night, went to use it today and it doesn't accelerate, engine runs fine, no warning lights on dashboard lit, can put it in gear and move it, but absolutely no...

The 04 Santa Fe came with three different engines. 4 cylinder (2.4 lit), and two different V6's (2.7 lit & 3.5 lit). The 2.4 & 2.7 use throttle cables connected directly to the throttle plate, but the 3.5 uses ETS (Electronic Throttle System) which uses two sensors (APS & TPS) and a control module (ETSCM). APS=Accelerator Position Sensor, TPS=Throttle Position Sensor, ETSCM= Electronic Throttle System Control Module. There are different diagnostic procedures for each system.
Go to www.hmaservice.com and register your vehicle by VIN #.. you'll then have access to wiring diagrams, shop manuals, service bulletins, campaigns, illustrations and procedures, etc.

2003 santa fe with 130,000 miles, had timing belt replaced at 60,000 miles. Should it be replaced now at 130 k ?

Your Hyundai's engine is an interference engine, meaning that if the timing belt breaks the engine will suffer major damage. At least a valve job, probably the head being replaced and in the worst case an engine replacement.

The recommended replacement interval for a timing belt is 60k, your already over so I would replace it as soon as feasible.

Have 2007 Santa Fe which I love - problem: Drove thru puddle about 3 months ago - Battery light came on & lost power steering, but after 1 minute, batt light off & steering fine... Then, on very...

the crank pulleys (also called a harmonic dampener) on these vehicle are a fairly common failure. as they begin to break apart, the pulley will begin to have a wobble as the engine runs, causing the drive belts that power your alternator, power steering, etc to loosen off. when the belts then get wet, combined with being loose, they will slip, causing your accessories not to work. hope this was helpful!

2004 Santa Fe stalling problem

I appreciate your predicament.. it's virtually impossible to diagnosis your problem here without personally inspecting the vehicle. Intake air flow is rarely the cause of the problem you describe... it's usually something more sinister. Without more information, I cannot tell you anything more than have it inspected (hopely by a competent technician)... sometimes the obvious is not the cause... it's the innocuousness possibilities that confound us. and it's this confoundment which agravates us.

The check engine light is on rattling noise and hardly any power while pushing on the gas the car has $85,000 miles on it. Please help

Run it into an autozone, PepBoys or similar autoparts store & they will usually scan for codes free of charge. Find out what fault codes your getting & if not obvious what to replace or repair, get back to us with codes & we will help. A lot quicker & cheaper this way than guessing.
