I had the exact same problem... scary to be on a small very dark road, then flip on your hi-beams, just to be left in total darkness going 35 mph!

When the Police removed their special packaging (wig wags and siren), so they could sell the car to the public... well, they just cut the **** out of the wires, removing both the hi-beams and horn. It took a couple of hours playing with the wires to make the hi-beams work... and the horn? What a mess! Took a piece of wire (with both ends stripped) to test with... stripped a small area on each wire, and touched the test wire to the bare spot and the battery, until the horn sounded... that is the wire we used. Then, using a push button bought at Auto Zone ran a doubled wire inside the cab, cut it and placed one end on each side of the button... under the hood, one end of the new wire connects to the one that made the horn sound, and the other end of the new wire connects to the battery. Use electrical tape to cover every wire that was shaved and not used. NOT PRETTY... but we have a horn.

Good luck!

If the high beam wiring is in tact, check with Oriley Auto Parts for a hadlight control unit bypass asy. It cost around a hundred bucks, but beats the 400 dollar price tag for a new control nit.

I have p1747 code will that lite up the red light top right corner of my dash on a 2000 crown viv police intercepter

That is a transmission code...

P1747 (EPC Shift Solenoid). Not uncommon for police interceptors...

Here is a discussion of other possible causes:

I have a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor with a bad transmission. Will any transmission from a 1999 or 2000 Crown Vic. or Grand Marquis work as a replacement?

MOST INTERCEPTER CARS, MEAN THEY HAVE AN ADDED GEAR IN THE TRANSMISSION! WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING IS GOING TO A TRANSMISSION WITHOUT THAT EXTRA GEAR! TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION: YES YOU CAN REPLACE IT WITH A REGULAR TRANSMISSION! YOU JUST WON'T BE ABLE TO CHASE BURGLARS! HAHA

I have a 1998 ford crown vic police intercepter and the transmission is sticking in first gear and when i let off the gas it shifts. what could be the problem? and oh i already did a trans flush.

thereis a transmission module i believe, and that tells it when to shift. if they didn't have them in that year model, then a vacuum line will also cause that

I put a 1997 4.6 police intercepter engine in a 92 crown vic but i am having problems with wiring. what should I do or what can I do

you need to describe the problems.

The engine computer may not be compatible with this engine. It may require the PCM from a police intercepter vehicle. Do you have the calibration code from the vehicle the engine came out of?

Most of the sensors and actuators are the same for police and regualr car for the same model year. You probably need a wirng diagram book for a 1992 and a 1997 so you can compare.

I may have one or both. If yes, I would sell fro $7 each plus $2 shipping each. Let me know and I will look.

Does the crown vic police intercepter take as much oil as the regular crown vic? (when changing the oil and filter)

I ~think~ the 1999 is the same as the 2000 (mine is a 2000 P71)

The 2000 CVPI (Crown Vic Police Interceptor) owners manual recommends the following:

Engine Oil - Motorcraft SAE 5W-30 Super Premium Motor Oil 5.0 quarts

Transmission Fluid - Motorcraft Mercon V ATF 13.9 quarts (fluids Mercon & Mercon V are NOT INTERCHANGEABLE, DO NOT MIX)

Fuel Tank - 19.0 gallons

Break Fluid - DOT 3

Rear Axle Lubricant - Motorcraft 80W-90 Premium Rear Axle Lubricant 3.75 pints (add 4 oz of Additive Friction Modifier C8AZ-19B546-A or equilavent meeting Ford Spec. EST-M2C118-A for complete refill of Traction-Lok Rear Axles)

Engine Data - 4.6L V8 Engine
Cubic Inches - 281
Required Fuel - 87 Octane
Firing Order - 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
Spark Plug Gap - 1.3-1.4 mm (0.052-0.056 inch)
Ignition System - Coil On Plug
Compression Ratio - 10.0:1

I hope this helps!

Got code for egr but i heard it might be dpfe sensor can anyone let me know where its at and looks like on 94 crown vic police intercepter thanks

It is highly unlikely that the sensor is bad. What the most common cause of DPFE codes is a blocked EGR passage in the intake manifold. The car is 15 years old and over that time has accumulated carbon build-up in the passage. The passage is located in the intake manifold beneath the air-intake casting.
