Question about 2005 Hyundai Tucson

The oil got very dirty due to long use

Drive and reverse gear delay. I drain the oil and removed the pan to change the oil filter , but I did not see the filter, where is the filter located
do I have to remove the valve body ?

Get a tube of permatex and put the pan back on...the oil filter is mounted to the block on the outside.
Looking up from the pan, it's a canister filter about the size of a soup can, threaded into the lower side of the engine just above the pan.

The filter is internally-threaded, and mounts on a short nipple spout....turn it counter-clockwise to remove, and put the new filter on hand-tight plus a short snug with the filter wrench*.

*A simple tool, about $5-10 at Autozone.

**For future oil changes, simply remove the drain bolt from the pan, and swap the filter.

Change transmission oil


Hi Peter, If your Camry has an automatic transmission, for normal driving the auto fluid should be changed every 40,000km, there should be a drain plug on the transmission pan that takes a 10mm hex drive or 17mm socket to undo. You have two choices after driving the car onto ramps or jacking up and supporting on jack stands so you can safely get under the car. 1 - You can loosen and remove the transmission drain plug to let the auto fluid drain out into a container (careful not to lose the sealing washer) refit and tighten the drain plug and washer again. Remove the auto transmission fluid level dip stick, using a suitable funnel pour about 2.5 litres of suitable new auto trans fluid back into the transmission via the dipstick tube (I believe they take dexron 2 of 3 type fluid). Start the car and move it onto a level surface. With the engine running, handbrake on and brake pedal applied, shift the transmission from park through every gear selection slowly into 1st gear, then back to park. Leave engine running. Wipe the dip stick & insert it back into the dip stick tube fully, remove and check where the fluid level mark is on the end of the dipstick. If the fluid level indicates low or does not show at all, add 100ml of additional fluid and recheck the level till the fluid reaches the full mark on the dipstick. 2 - The second option is everything in the first option but includes replacement of the transmission filter and pan gasket. I would only do this if the car had travelled high km or the pan gasket was leaking. At the point where you've drained the old fluid into a container and refitted the drain plug and washer, remove all the transmission pan bolts and the transmission pan. If you have the time to let the fluid drain overnight prior to removing the pan it's a good idea because once the pan is removed, fluid will continue to drip from the transmission. You'll need to remove the old pan gasket, some may be stuck to the pan and or transmission, a razor blade type gasket scraper can be good for this but be careful not to scratch either surface when cleaning off the old gasket. Remove the bolts/nuts that hold the transmission filter onto the bottom of the transmission. Careful caus more fluid may drain out of the transmission or filter once removed. Fit the new filter and filter tube gasket & bolts/nuts, careful not to over tighten. Fit new pan gasket, pan and bolts. Continue with fluid filling procedure from option 1. I would suggest you only use option one and remember to double check the drain plug is tight. Also, remember to dispose of the old fluid correctly. Cheers

When cold my 94 ford taurus goes ino reverse andthe other gears but when warm in wont go in reverse and drive you have rap up motor then it takes off


If the fluid level is full when the car is at normal operating temperature, the transmission may be giving up. Short of a diagnosis by a transmission shop, about all you could try is a transmission drain and new filter and pan gasket for the transmission bottom pan. When the pan is removed, about 6-8 quarts will drain, and the fluid filter is mounted with small screws right exposed then, easy to replace.
Post back if you need help with how to remove pan and drain-basically loosen all bolts on it, lower by one end a little at a time and let fluid drain, then remove pan all the way off. You will need the car on jack stands or blocks to safely lay under it and work. You can buy a kit at a parts store with new pan gasket and filter.

transmission filter in the bottom of transmission bolted to valve body.you need a large drain pan.place drain plug under transmission oil pan.remove transmission oil pan drain plug.let all transmission fluid drain out then screw back drain plug in oil pan.then you need to remove transmission oil pan then remove filter and replace pan gasket also.make sure you have right amount transmission fluid on hand.buy extra because if you short of fluid you cant drive car if fluid level too low.make sure you get the right amount fluid.torque pan bolts to 96 inch pounds.

How do you change transmission oil on 1992 saturn, automatic ?


Transmission oil is not drained from the trany, you have to have a replacement system it filters the trany fluid while the engine is running.

How do you service automatic transmission? change trans. fluid?


remove the transmission oil pan bolts,leave one corner tight untill your ready to lower pan and drain fluid into oil catcher pan,then remove remaining bolts and drop pan,
remove the transmission filter, install new filter,clean inside pan and dry,install new gasket on pan,reinstall pan,put at least 5 quarts in before you start car and shift through gears,return to park,and bring oil to full mark.

Need to change the transmission filter how and where is it located


Fluid & Filter Change Under normal service (moderate highway driving excluding excessive hot or cold conditions), the manufacturer feels that automatic transmission fluid should not need periodic changing. However, if a major service is performed to the transmission, if transmission fluid becomes burnt or discolored through severe usage or if the vehicle is subjected to constant stop-and-go driving in hot weather, trailer towing, long periods of highway use at high speeds, fluid should be changed to prevent transmission damage. A preventive maintenance change is therefore recommended for most vehicles at least every 90,000 miles (145,000 km).
Although not a required service, transmission fluid changing can help assure a trouble-free transmission. Likewise, changing the transmission filter at this time is also added insurance.
  1. Raise the car and support it securely on jackstands.
The torque converters on some transmissions are equipped with drain plugs. Because it may take some time to drain the fluid from the converter, you may wish to follow that procedure at this time, then come back to the pan and filter removal.

  1. Loosen all of the pan attaching bolts to within a few turns of complete removal, then carefully break the gasket seal allowing most of the fluid to drain over the edge of the pan.
CAUTION DO NOT force the pan while breaking the gasket seal. DO NOT allow the pan flange to become bent or otherwise damaged.

  1. When fluid has drained to the level of the pan flange, remove the pan bolts and carefully lower the pan doing your best to drain the rest of the fluid into the drain pan.ea833e6.gif


Once the pan is removed, discard the old gasket and insure that the mating surfaces are clean

Inspect this magnet inside of the pan for any large pieces of debris. A light gray coating is normal

Clean the pan thoroughly with a safe solvent and allow it to air dry

5. Clean the transmission oil pan thoroughly using a safe solvent, then allow it to air dry. DO NOT use a cloth to dry the pan which might leave behind bits of lint. Discard the old pan gasket.

6. If necessary, remove the Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) filter mounting bolts, then remove the filter by pulling it down and off of the valve body. Make sure any gaskets or seals are removed with the old filter. The transmission usually has one round seal and a rectangular gasket.

7. Install the new oil filter screen making sure all gaskets or seals are in place, then secure using the retaining screws, if applicable.

8. Place a new gasket on the fluid pan, then install the pan to the transmission. Tighten the attaching bolts to 71-119 inch lbs. (8-13 Nm).

Fill the transmission with the proper amount of ATF

9. Add three quarts (six quarts if the torque converter was drained) of fluid to the transmission through the filler tube.
10. Remove the jackstands and carefully lower the vehicle.
11. Start the engine and move the gear selector through all gears in the shift pattern. Allow the engine to reach normal operating temperature.
12. Check the transmission fluid level. Add fluid, as necessary, to obtain the correct level.

My Buick Riviera is having trouble reversing. It is fine in all other gears but when I go to reverse it starts puttering and won't reverse unless I put the pedal to the floor.


IT sounds like the reverse band or pump is playing up and it could be due to dirty filter in the pan on G/Box
or the pump isent getting enough oil and the body valve isent working propley and as the reverse and forward pumps are both differant then.
Check oil in trans first and then if no change take to auto trand shop for a expert check over ..

2 THINGS TO TRY
1 Drain auto trans oil from g/box sump, remove g/b/sump pan and remove the filter as you might find the filter is faulty/dirty/or just no good and then either replace it or wash out in petrol and refit /refill test run.
2 Check the forward bands and pump on forward drive if bands are burnt or worn then the oil and filter will be dark red or brown and that means trouble.

I'm going to guess since you didn't mention which fluid...Transmission?
First find out which unit you have (usually an id tag on it somewhere ) Then look up what kind and how much fluid in your owners manual (usually around four quarts...unit holds more but you can't remove it from the pan) Remove all pan bolts and lower pan. (some units have a drain plug, use it first if you have one ) you will see the filter attached to the valve body. remove it and install the new one, Make sure all gasket material is removed from pan and trans. Clean any metal etc from pan and internal magnet (there is always some in there but should not be a ton of it) Then put pan and gasket back. Make sure you can turn each fastener easily to make sure they are not cross threaded and only tighten them after they are all in there. Bolts do not have to be tightened down like they never should be removed again (snug then a little bit more)tighten in an X pattern not a circle.Replace about half of the fluid with car off, then put in remainder while running. Put your foot on the brake and shift to reverse then drive a few times then check fluid level.Low is bad, a tiny bit (less than half inch) over is OK.
Drive for a short ride, check again for leaks and re-tighten if any are found.
If trans was exceptionally dirty and yours has a drain plug, I recommend that you use a generic oil on the first change, then in a week, drain oil again and re-fill with good brand name stuff. and perhaps a bottle of lucas conditioner.
