1995 GMC Suburban. Transmission slips between third and fourth

1995 Chevy Suburban. Transmission worked fine for a long time. Two things done to truck at time the transmission started slipping. Replaced rear end and also added stereo system. After this was done, it slips between third and fourth. Just had brakes done and the mechanic shop tried to test the transmission, but using their testing machine could not get the transmission to shift. The mechanic shop recommended I take to a transmission shop. I think the problem is electrical and could be from the backyard installation of the stereo system. Anyone know a way I can test to see if it is electrical or a bad transmission.

Depending on where you connected power to the stereo from on the fuseblock you could be messing up the tranny. Refer to the manual versus where the stereo wires are, Worst case, disconnect power to the stereo to see if that's the cause of the problem.

I have 1995 Chevy Suburban, 350 2 wheel drive. When first starting the vehicle the transmission works fine but when it warms up the transmission does nothing . What could be the problem

Is the transmission fluid level topped off when warm?

Has the transmission been flushed and filled within the last 30,000 mi? Dirt and clutch dust can accumulate in the orifices of the solenoid causing malfunctions of the transmission.

A flush and fill is a $100, or so, fix if this is the case.

If, however, the damage has been done to the solenoids due to wear and tear of the clutches, then the transmission will have to be rebuilt or replaced with a low mileage one that doesn't malfunction in this manner.

My transmission slips going through second gear if i get my foot in it just a little bit, and it doesnt always go into reverse. if i shift into reverse and it doesnt shift, i have to shift to neutral then...

this problem is a common failure associated with your shift solenoinds inside your tranny. of course a shop is not gonna tell you this because by the time you wanna get it repaired it is usually too late and have already cause damage to your clutch pack and internal parts, thats the main reason why a shop wont mess with just replacing your shift solenoid (aka valve bodie)

Will a 1994 chevy 4l80e 4wd swap into a 1995 GMC

Yes they will swap out nicely, the years where they made the change is in 1997 and the only difference is the transmission end housing has a different bolt pattern but has the same internal parts. You may also want to swap out the servo's with a corvette servo. The cost is around $45.00 and can be done without dropping the transmission pan, this will make your transmission shift firmer and will have less clutch slip[ between gear shifts. Good luck and hope this information helps.

95 GMC 454 Auto-not shifting consistant

first things first, check your fluid level, and condition. If its abnormally bad with small fragments of black, you can assume that you burnt out a clutch and you'll need to get a reman or new transmission. If the level is too high or low, it will cause it not to shift properly.
