Remove bendix from honda varadero xl 1000

The bendix is at the top of the starter. Pull the starter, remove the four bolt at the back of it. Pull the cap off the starter. remove the clip on the end and pull the bendix out.. Just a note.. they quit selling bendix and solenoids years ago.. Starter only, all or none.

Car starts but the engine will not turn over

Not likely. More likely is that the starter, or the starter solenoid is bad.
This is the way it works. Turn key, car checks to see if all safety items are OK (in neutral or park, brake pedal depressed, etc), if OK then sends signal to starter solenoid to engage(it's basically just a magnetic switch), which allows the full power of the battery to turn the starter and engage the bendix, which engages the flywheel and turns the motor. If any of those things are bad, the car don't start. If it's the starter, the bendix will make a metallic click or thunk. If it's the bendix, the starter turns, but not he motor. If it's a fault in the electrical system, then no starter, and no bendix. If the battery is weak, the bendix may or may not click.
To repair;
1; starter can be rebuilt, including the bendix. moderately expensive if done by shop. Inexpensive if you can do it yourself. Warning - it's a PITA to get it out!
2; selenoid can be replaced. Usually inexpensive, except for shop charges. It sets on top of the starter.
3; If electrical; this can get expensive as it is labor intensive to track down the fault, even if the part is usually inexpensive.

Early 1984 Shovelhead FLH, Bendix hanging up after starting, starter continuing to spin & getting hot. How can I make sure alignment/adjustment is correct to prevent this? What is next nest step?

Alignment isn't your problem. Most likely the solenoid. Not pulling the bendix back, replace the starter or bendix. if alignment could be the problem, I have seen it , The starter needs shimmed out. in very rare occasions, I have done a per bolt shim. Only because some one has put a grinder to the mating surfaces.

Can't get my truck to start

If the starter turns but not the engine several things could be going on. The most likely is the Bendix mechanism in the starter. The Bendix spins out and engages the flywheel when the starter turns and then a spring pulls the mechanism back to disengage. If it is inoperable you will get the symptoms you describe. Another possibility (and more likely) is a bad ground for the starter so that it does not get enough amps to spin fast enough to engage the Bendix. You can everything correct electrically and the ground will get you. I would have an electrical shop look at it.

2003 Lincoln Navigator starter grinding when starting

If you mean the starter grinds from time to time and won't crank the engine when it happens, the problem could be a bad spot on the flywheel and/or a faulty starter. The starter uses a magnet and bendix gear to push the starter gear into the flywheel. If the magnet or bendix is weak, the gear will not engage and can damage the teeth on the flywheel.
You need to have the starter removed and check the flywheel teeth for damage.

Ford focus won't turn over ,was fine this morning parked up now won't start getting whinning sound from side of engine

If the temperature is low, then the engine might have struck up. You need to give heat and then try starting. If you still face the problem, then open the front and check if any wires have been cut off or else call or an mechanic to solve the problem,
