1991 Nissan 300ZX. Dealer replaced auto transmission. Starter was replaced 6 months ago. Transmission locked up after 30 miles. Dealer says new transmission's not the problem. I need a second opinion.
The Dealer was a nissan dealership and they told me it was my interlock solenoid on my shifter and it was blowing my fuses. That's why my car wouldn't start but I already checked this out and the solenoid is fine and they never replaced any of my fuses. I've already checked my starter and my starter's good. I didn't have any problems with my car until I had the transmission replaced. The Dealer was a nissan dealership and they told me it was my interlock solenoid on my shifter and it was blowing my fuses. if its automatic transmission check the transmision flued, level, seals might be corroded, and flued leaked out, causes lack of presure in the transmision hydrolick system,or the clutch plates inside the transmission are slipping cuase of hardening
first thing to do is to add a relay in your starter. relay should be connected to the solenoid of your starter then giving it addition amperes to let the starter motor running.
if adding a relay does not do the trick. replace the carbons bushings in your starter.
another problem should be your ignition timing. if you are experiencing hard starting only when the engine is hot, then your ignition timing is overly advanced.
On all 300zx NA the speed sensor is on the passenger side of the transmission. There is portion called the adapter plate in the middle of the transmission when looking at the side profile. This plate is about an inch thick and seems to separate the transmission from the front main body to the rear housing. The speed sensor is just aft of this (towards the rear of the car). It is round smooth top with a set of wires coming out of it leading up to a brown plug (no sure if color changed for different years)
No, that is not true, you can only use one from another 300ZX, 1990-91 for a manual transmission, 1990-93 for an automatic. Also you have to get the one for if you have twin turbo, or one if you don't.
follow the positive cable to the silonide and that is connected to the starter it is the only part that will be going into the transmission by the fly wheel
