Question about 2004 Volvo V70

2 Answers

I have a 1999 XC70 wagon. I recently had the hatchback lock replaced. However, it will not operate with the remote or the switch on the armrest. The repaid shop told me there was no voltage to the remote lock. How can I check for voltage; where are the terminal stips located?

The remote did not work before I had the lock replaced. One reason I had the lock replaced was that it would not latch at all, and I wanted to be able to lock the back hatch.

When the problem first occurred, it was gradual. Sometimes the remote lock/unlock would work, other times it would not. Then it would not work at all.

It's a pain to have to crawl in the back to unlock the door.

Hi! Have you checked the fuse? It may be blown and needs to be replaced. You can check it on the fusebox and then you can do the testing if the fuse is ok. Hope this helps and have a good one!

The shop didn't install it correctly most likely. To further investigate before you accuse the shop of wrong doing: Go to the local dealer armed with the VIN number of your car and or the car. Ask the service/parts departments for a print out of the workings including the wiring diagram of the units. Most likely there is a problem with the way they installed the unit and they don't know how to reset it. The instructions from the dealer will help you sort out what the shop did or didn't do properly. If there is no voltage to the unit that is part of the shops job to give you a fully functioning unit in return for your payment. If there was a known problem they should have told you before finishing the job not after.
As for the dealer - before you take it in you might try removing the negative side of the battery and letting it stand for 45 minutes. Replace the cable - reset the clock - radio etc and run the car for about 20-30 minutes. This gives all the onboard computers a chance to reset.
Still I highly recommend you take down the vin number and call the dealer - ask about RECALLS of any kind and also Service Bulletins concerning your VIN number.

1999 Acura hatchback locks up and won't open with remote or key

Try using spraying some WD-40 on the locking mechanism and try working it in by unlocking and locking the lock. Sometimes dirt and debris can get inside the internal moving parts causing it to get "sticky" or "stuck".

My sister in law bought a 1999 volvo wagon. When she got the car they didn't give her the reciever for the car alarm. Also recently she was car jacked, she has the car but no keys. What should she do?

Go to the dealer and get a new lock set installed. And remotes programed (not cheap).
Sorry to hear that.

Or you can just go to the dealer and get some keys made. Then sell it and get a 1998 its the same thing but made much better,

Make sure to change the home locks too because if they stole her wallet they have her address and her keys so they will come back and rob your home. This had happened to people i know.

Can I program the remote for my volvo xc70? Are there instructions?

No, your remote has a transponder inside of it. It has to be programed to read the chip inside your ignition lock. Thats how they communicate to each other and the car knows that, thats the key for the car. You have to take it to the dealer and they can program if for you in like 10 min.

Central locking system

I have recently had this problem I believe this to has been caused by a fault in the drivers door lock assembly It seems this contains the remote receiver. In my case I think there had been some radio interference being the main cause. The remote system seems to be working OK, The door lock will still not operate with the key.
Remove and replace the fuse 25 resetting the ignition module. Starting the engine, switch off remove the key from the ignition, stay in the car lock the doors using the door button, press and hold the remote unlock button for approx 5 seconds, listen to see if you can hear the clicking of the door receiver when you press the remote buttons. Press and hold lock/unlock button. You may be lucky.
