Did you check brake pedal switch for power? Disconect the switch/located next to steering column under the dashboard/ and short the terminals/two/with wire, switch ON and look at the taillights. If not-change the fuse.If YES - change brake lights switch, but first trie to pull out the front side of the switch and check again tail lights.

1998 vw golf rear brake light problem, fuses arnt blowen?

Hello Samuel,

I would start my looking at the BRAKE PEDAL itself...

Your switch is located there above the pedal.

It is a single lead switch... You can check the CIRCUIT DRAWINGS FREE at BBB Industries site at
BBB Industries Premium Alternators Starters Power Steering Products

Registration is required...
These are real documents & Technical Service Bulletins
(TSBs).

Also please see the SWITCH itself... EXAMPLE:

I have 2002 Golf My rear screen brake works but the wing brake lights do not. Is this just a bulb issue or brake pedal switch problem.

it wont be a brake pedal switch fault as the one in the rear window runs off the same switch.check your bulbs.

One fog light in 3003 vw golf not working - repalaced bulb, there does not seem to be a particular fuse on the fuse diagram?

depending on country, most golf DO NOT have 2 rear foglights, this is not to confuse the driver behind thinking they are your brake lights, the one that works is fitted/wired to the offside.it still has a bulb holder though........the fronts have a fuse for both(when fitted)

R Reg 1998 Golf GTi, the reverse lights aren't working

check the shifter as it should have the reverse contact in the console, if the shifter has some play in it then the contacts for the switch could have become damaged.. good luck

Brake lights not working and EPC light on the dashboard

probably you have either fitted the wrong bulb, accidently fitted the bulb wrong or shorted out the wiring or holder, look in your handbook for fuse location and double check your hatch bulb.
