Check the radiator coolant fan,or the R C fan relay. If radiator coolant fan went out your car will over heat when idle .

When was the last time you replaced the thermostat, are the cooling fans coming on , turn on the ac and see if the fans come on if theyarent check for a blown fuse ,bad fan relay or temp sensor

Sounds like either low anti freeze, thermostat is not working or your heater core is leaking. Is there any anti freeze leaking under the car? You water pump could be bad if there is fluid on the ground below.

My Chrysler Concorde 2000 3.2? Overheated and melted a hole in the water resivour tank,so we replaced that, it still got hot fast, so we replaced thermostat, then it started making a loud noise it sounds...


The whistling noise is steam. The problem is you never attacked the source of the problem. What you need to do now is drain your radiator completely at opening T-spicket at the bottom of the radiator. While you drain with engine off, run your water hose on top, to flush out the radiator. Then run to the Auto store and buy "radiator flush" -- follow directions. After flushing out the radiator flush, close the T-spicket, and fill with NEW anti-freeze. By enough to fill to the very top. Mix the anti-freeze with water per instructions to your environmental weather.
Buy a new radiator cap which could have caused the problem in the first place by not allowing the correct pressure to blow off. Being a 2000 car is a little early for radiator problems, but an incorrect anti-freeze solution causes radiators to fail prematurely.. Better to have more than less because anti-freeze keeps the radiator from corroding.
Your radiator never cooled the water sufficiently, and boiled much of the water out, hence it got so hot that it would melt the water tank. The Thermostat could well have been the cause because it got corroded from the inept ant-freeze mixture. Did you find rust on the Thermostat ? If so it was the case. If not the radiator has lost cooling either by low water or the cores have become plugged up, in that case you will need a new radiator. See if the flush loosens the rust within the cores before buying an expensive radiator. Check the water hoses if leaking cooling. Run the car allow the engine to become hot before accepting that your water hoses are fine. Because heat expand everything, and may not leak until after the expansion.

Hi there!
First.- with the engine off and cool, put a flush and drain radiator cleaner run the engine for 10 minutes, turn it off, let it cool down.
Once the engine is not too hot, open the lowest hose of radiator while you put water in the main mouth of radiator.
Once you see the water flushing clear, put the hose back and then fill it with special GM antifreeze, (the one is orange color) put all gallon into it and the rest of water, LOOK FOR THE ONE YOU CAN ADD WATER, THAT'S THE BEST FOR YOUR VAN... Good Luck!

Its over heating and ive changed the water pump clutch fan and themostat.


You may have a blown head gasket. They can leak outside the motor, inside the cylinders (causues white smoke), or into the block causing water in the oil (light brown color and or bubbles on the dipstick) or oil in the radiator. Hopefully you have none of those, so the next step is a radiator flush as you probably have something clogging up the radiator or thermostat. You have to drain the radiator and fill with clean water. Pull out the thermostat and leave it out for the flush. There are radiator flush products that I suggest highly. Run the truck to operating temp (about 20 min) with the heat on and dump the system by removing the bottom hose hose from the radiator, after the truck cools off. With the hose still off dump water through the radiator to clean it out fully. fill with water and let it run once again to clean the block, then reinstall new thermostat and anti-freeze. This should clean out any rust and stop leak that is causing your problems.

Anything special i need to know when changing my anti-freeze. this is my first time, trying to save money. someone said something about getting the air out? what does that mean?


drain the coolant, connect or close all hoses and drain plugs,start motor and fill radiator with a 50/50 mix of water and anti-freeze, leave engine running,when motor gets hot the thermostat will open allowing the coolant to flow through the motor, in change the anti-freeze will get lower in the radiator thus you continue to fill untill full and the radiator will not except more coolant, ( this is how you get the air out) replace radiator cap and fill reservoir to cold level and your done. Recheck your coolant reservoir after you have driven the vehicle a bit and fill if necessary, do not fill to top, only fill to cool mark. the reservoir is not under pressure so you can fill at any time motor hot or cold

Engine warms well, heater fan blowing well, but very little heat comes into cab


It could be one of two things.
1. Bad thermostat. Your thermostat is pobably not opening when the engine warms up. Install a new thermostat and you should be OUT OF THE COLD. If not,
2. Your heating core and radiator is probably clogged. One way to solve this is. Flush out your radiator with radiator flush kit. Pease read your owners manual, (YOU NEED TO USE A SPECIAL TYPE OF ANTI FREEZE). If you use the the green color Presotne anti freeze, It will gradually corrode through the linings of your radiator. And the green color prestone anti freeze will blow out the radiator. So read your owners malual ( I beleive it says you have to use Dextron Anti Freeze ( Pink Color).. Replace your thermostat and flush out your radiator. Then refill your radiator with dextron anti freeze. Also make sure the anti freeze resivor is filled to the proper level.. Once you do all of this, YOU DEFFINITLY WILL BE IN HEAT.. YOU CAN DO THIS YOUR SELF ( iT WOULD TAKE ME NO MORE THAN 1 TO 2 HOURSFOR ME TO DO THIS IN MY DRIVEWAY) OR YOU CAN HAVE THIS DONE AT ANY QUICK LUBE LOCATIONS... HAPPY MOTORING

Here's the procedure on how to drain the coolant from your radiator.


1. Prepare what you need. To make the process easier, it would be wise to have everything you need before you begin:

Pair of latex gloves.
Screwdriver or wrench.
Rags.
Radiator Flush.
Coolant.
Funnel.
Radiator cap.
Draining pan.

2. Place your car on an elevated ramp. If you don't have one, you can use a lifter to do the job. This is usually stashed in your car's compartment in the back. Positioning your car in an elevated position will make the draining process easier. Keep in mind that though that despite your car being in an elevated position it should still be in a level or flat position.
3. Make very certain that your engine has sufficiently cooled. Not warm to the touch but really, really cool. This is a safety measure to avoid your skin from being burned or scalded. Pressurized contents of the radiator will most likely shoot up in the air if you insist on opening the cap while the engine is still hot. Ergo, not a good idea.
4. Look for the radiator plug. Now's the time to wear your latex gloves because you are ready to begin the draining process. Feel the radiator plug underneath your car.
5. Take the draining pan. Place it directly underneath the radiator plug.
6. Tug the radiator plug loose. You will then see that the coolant is now draining into the pan. Once the coolant is collected in the pan, do not dispose of it as you would dirty water. Anti-freeze is bad for the environment. Keep within environmental laws and collect the liquid refuse in a sealed bottle and turn it over to the proper waste management venue. Keep in mind that Anti-Freeze is harmful to your skin so make sure none of the liquid refuse touches your skin.
7. Observe the consistency of the liquid refuse. If you see metal flakes and other tiny debris, this is a clear indication that your cooling system might need the hand of a professional.
8. Proceed to remove the radiator cap. This allows the air to circulate freely into the radiator tubes and helps speed along the draining process.
9. Check to see if the radiator cap needs replacing. Part of the reason why your radiator needs draining is that sediments and dirt coming from the cap directly mixes in with the Anti-Freeze and water in your radiator. If your radiator cap clearly shows wear, tear, and dry rot, replace it with a new one, pronto.
10. Tighten the radiator plug. After the initial draining process, tighten the radiator plug then fill the radiator with water to shake loose remaining Anti-Freeze in the radiator tubes.
11. Replace the radiator cap. Once you are done filling the radiator with water, replace the radiator cap.
12. Turn on the engine. This allows the remaining Anti-Freeze to be shaken off your radiator. Allow the engine to run for five minutes.
13. Turn the car's engine off and allow it to cool.
14. Repeat the flushing process until the water runs clear. Use the flushing agent this time to make sure your radiator is truly clean. You will know it's over when the water runs clear.
15. Pour in the new coolant. You may have done this many times over but it still always pays to read the instructions of the coolant product before proceeding. The rule of thumb is 50/50 which means 50% distilled water and 50% coolant.
16. Tighten the radiator cap.

it should have a drain plug on the inner bottom that twist out. If not the bottom rad. hose will be fine to remove. I drain the water, and then run water through it with the hose still off. Replace the plug or hose and put in a cooling system cleaner (prestone) and fill with water. Start the car and let run for until it reaches a normal running temp, keep running for 5 min. urn engine off, let it cool and drain water. I then flush it again with water to remove any rust or gunk left in. I do this until I see good clear water running out. Reinstall your plug or hose and fill with (anti-freeze) be sure to get the right anti-freeze, some take a different color. If you use 50/50, it will take 3-4 to fill or 1 straight anti-freeze with mixture of water until full. Good luck
